Acapulco holds a SPECIAL place in my heart. The first time I ever visited was when I left my job from the cruiselines as a photographer. They cruiseship took me to the airport and basically made sure I was getting on that plane. I was nervous but it's a lovely airport and I had no issues and there used to be a restaurant called Wings, and the ladies were so nice.
Then I returned later, when I wanted a change from visiting Puerto Vallarta. I had been to Zipolite only once and only a day and I wanted to check it out more. My friend had told me wonderful stories, and so the easiest way was to fly into Acapulco. I totally forgot I had been to the airport years before and when I arrived, well it was like coming home.
Acapulco has always been like that for me. I don't know why, it's a big city, so maybe there that connection as I live in Vancouver and it's a big city, but there's so much more. It's magical, the people, the buses, and then miracles that have happened.
I've posted those stories before, about not being able to find a room and then an "angel" called Gabriel found me a $12 room. I was at the end of my journey and just needed to stay one more night and well it all turned out wonderful.
And how once the taxi driver came all the way back after dropping me off at the bus to bring my Spanish dictionary I had left in his cab.
Truely wonderful people have helped us here. Like I said, I love Acapulco. I pray that God and all his Angels smile down on Acapulco and help it through it troubles.
I really like this video. It's inspired me to go back and remake my videos, make them into a film like the original plan. Wish me luck.

So Angel and I have been sicker than dogs with this terrible flu/cold thing that's going around right now. We've both lost weight and well I need a way to pump us up. Now Angel and I both drink milk so we don't agree with the guy in the 2nd video, but it's sort of humourous so I added. I like the first one, because of the mom and her girls giving the presentation. I think cashews are delicious and hope them to add them more to our diet. Anyways I hope you enjoy these videos and the info here. When we were in Mexico we liked to treat ourselves to cashews, pistachios and other nuts.

The cashew is in the family Anacardiaceae. Its English name derives from the Portuguese name for the fruit of the cashew tree, caju, which in turn derives from the indigenous Tupi name, acajú. The cashew, Anacardium occidentale, is a fast growing, spreading, tropical tree, reaching around 30 feet at maturity, that starts bearing after only 4 years or so from planting. It is also a member of the poison ivy family. The nuts are carried as an appendage on the end of a fleshy edible bright yellow or red fruit, known as the 'cashew apple'. The nut meat itself has an outer protective layer which contains a caustic oil. The oil is highly irritating to the skin. The oil can be removed by heating the nuts in a shallow pan, but the oil tends to 'spurt' dangerously, and the acrid smoke can cause blisters. These days, cashews are heated in an inclined, perforated, rotating, drum. Once the caistic oil is released, they are sprayed with water to cool them. Some kernels near the bottom of the pile and closer to the heat source tend to get scorched, and get sold at a cheaper price as a lower grade nut. Grade 1 nuts are white, number 2 grade are lightly scorched.
The cashew is native to the American tropics of Brazil, Peru, and Mexico. It is also native to the Islands of the West Indies. When the Portuguese invaded Brazil in the 1500's they found the cashew growing along the coast line in the north. The Portuguese soon exported the seed to their colonies in East Africa.There they quickly become naturalised, and grew wild all along the Mozambique coast. From there they were introduced and naturalised in other East African countries - Kenya, Tanzania., and Portuguese explorers introduced the tree to Malaysia, as well. Soon, the African people started selling the wild harvested nuts to Portuguese traders, who on-sold them to merchants in India. The trees were soon planted in all suitable areas of tropical India, and in the 1950's quite large orchards were planted, chiefly in the state of Kerala. India is now the dominant producer of cashews in the world, shipping its finest grade nuts soon after the May harvest in nitrogen gas flushed sealed metal cans for maximum freshness. Brazil is the next largest producer, harvesting in October.

Effective at halting soil erosion
Cashew trees are very effective at retaining soil and stopping erosion, especially in coastal areas. This was why the Portuguese introduced cashew trees in many coastal areas of the tropical world that remain among the most important producers today.
Along the coast of Orissa in India, cashew trees are still planted as shelterbelts and windbreaks. They stabilise sand dunes and protect the adjacent fertile agricultural land from drifting sand. More recently, cashews have proven useful as a species of choice for reforestation in degraded areas.
They are one of the few trees that do well under such conditions and that generate both food and income for producers so that their survival is ensured.
Ways to improve profitability & efficiency
In general, however, there are a number of important, practical ways that cashew producers, and the industry as a whole, could be made more efficient and profitable.
These include:
* Increasing yields by pruning, replanting, or "topping" existing trees with new grafts in order to increase production and control pests.
* Bringing more areas into cashew cultivation, especially areas that are marginal, abandoned, or degraded.
* Undertaking value-added hand processing at the farm or community level so that more of the value of the finished product accrues to the producer or the community.
* Processing the cashew apple into juice, dried fruit, wine, liquor, and other products. The fruit could provide an excellent source of vitamins and minerals for many households that are short on both. Income from the sale of juice could also be significant given the large amount of fruit that is currently abandoned.
* Increasing the ability of local producers and shellers to sort their nuts by standard grades so they are not penalised by buyers who, in turn, capture the value (often as much as 10 -15%) of sorting the nuts by grades.
* Improving local storage capacity and conditions so that cashews can be stored until hand shellers have a chance to process the entire crop. This would also allow the production to be sold onto the world market more gradually so that dumping would affect prices less.
* Increasing transparency and competition among buyers to improve producer prices.

The family spent summers in a country house just outside the city, on the banks of the Loire River. Here Verne and his brother Paul would often rent a boat for a Franc a day. The sight of the many ships navigating the river sparked Jules's imagination, as he describes in the autobiographical short story Souvenirs d'Enfance et de Jeunesse. At the age of nine, Jules and Paul, of whom he was very fond, were sent to boarding school at the Saint Donatien College (Petit séminaire de Saint-Donatien). As a child, he developed a great interest in travel and exploration, a passion he showed as a writer of adventure stories and science fiction. His interest in writing often cost him progress in other subjects.

I love how it says he spent his early years at home with his "parents" and that he spent a lot of time playing beside the river. I think it's so important to be living near "water" as a child. There's just something magical about it, and it makes your mind grow. You learn so much from it.

One suggest is that 70% of people do not react to bedbug bites, some studies suggest 90% . This info was gathered from this report. Bed bug eggs take a week to twelve days to hatch. Bed bugs live in—beds of course, fabrics, furniture crevices and even in the baseboards. When you are first discovering that you have them night time is your friend.
Go into the infested room late at night with a flashlight and examine the previous mentioned spots where they are emerging to find a food source. This will give you a better idea of what you are up against. Also, go online and do a little research to understand the bed bug’s life cycle, residue they leave behind, and what they look like at all stages of life. Getting rid of them is a multi-tiered process.
Here is a step-by-step process on how to get rid of them using non-toxic methods.
1. Select a staging area for all the items in the infested room and closets, because you are basically moving everything out. Select an outdoor covered patio, or a garage, so you don’t contaminate another area of the house. If it is wintertime or summertime, outdoors would be best because you can utilize the extreme temperatures to aid in killing the pests.
2. Get a box of black construction trash bags and take into the infested room. Begin packing every item into trash bags so you can safely transport things to the staging area. Start with bedding, then clothing, then stuffed animals, then books, decorative items, etc. Move everything out. Leave the bed and heavy furniture in the room for the time being. You will treat the bedding in the room and you don’t want to potentially contaminate the rest of the house transporting the large items outside.
3. Start doing laundry. Depending upon how much you have, this could take days. Take a bag, one at a time from the staging area into the laundry room and carefully load the items into the washing machine. Roll up the contaminated trash bag and immediately put in outside trash bin. Every item of fabric needs to be washed and dried on HOT. Delicates may need to go into the Dry Cleaner or stored in the bag for a full month and then you can wash them. As each load is completed, fold items and put into a clean black trash bag. Seal, and stage all of the cleaned items in a separate staging area way from infested room and contaminated items.
4. As the laundry process continues, begin de-contaminating the infected room. The more of the following procedures and processes you can do, the better. It is suggested to do the processes multiple times over the coming 12 days, because the bugs need to be killed at all life cycles.
I found bed bug residue in the crevasses of drawers, so that is where I started. Remove all drawers, place each in a trash bag and move to staging area. Leave chests and shelving in place. Spray and wipe down each piece of remaining wood furniture and shelves with orange oil or another organic bug killer, focusing on cracks, crevices, especially on the inside where the drawers reside. Spray baseboards, especially if they are not sealed or caulked.
5. Rent or buy a steam cleaner and steam clean the carpet. You can add an organic pesticide into the solution if you want, but the heat, soap and suction should get most of them. Also purchase allergen bedding encasements for the mattress and the box spring. Encasements are sold in most bedding departments for people allergic to dust mites. Bed bugs are bigger than dust mites, so they won’t get in or out. Buy new pillows and toss the old ones. If you love your pillows and refuse to do away with them, buy encasements for them as well.
6. Don’t install the encasements right away. Stand up the mattress and box spring against the wall and steam clean, using the hand attachment. Also with the attachment, go along the baseboards between the molding and carpet.
7. As you are waiting for the carpeting and bedding to dry and continuing with the laundry, begin working on the other items in black bags in staging area. Everything needs to be wiped down with orange oil solution or another organic pesticide of your choice. Now is a good time to downsize and minimize! Maybe you don’t need all of those knickknacks in that room. Also, if there is something that can’t be wiped down for some reason or other, keep it in the bag, in the staging area for at least 2 weeks, or put it in the freezer for 24 hours, if it fits. Once you have decontaminated an item, move it methodically to the second staging area – the clean room.
8. When the carpet is thoroughly dry, dust the carpet, especially around the baseboards with Diatomaceous Earth, and rake it in. Let it sit for a day and then vacuum thoroughly. You can/should repeat one or both of the steam cleaning and the DE process in a day or two, because there may be un-hatched eggs. In fact I followed up my soap/orange oil steam cleaning with a steam cleaning using a cup of white vinegar per gallon. I feel that the change in pH made the carpet inhospitable to the eggs or larvae.
9. Every night, go into the infected room frequently to observe the bed bug activity. The residual bugs will be active, looking for a food source and you will see them. Spray any active bugs that you see. It would also be wise to create a barrier at the doorway with a thick line of DE. The bed bugs might actually try to travel out of the room. This happened to me. On the third or fourth night along the baseboards, there was a small trail of vagabond bedbugs moving from carpeted bedroom into the ceramic hallway. At that point they were an easy target, since they move so slowly. Where did they come from? I think they were hiding between the baseboards and the carpet, which is very difficult area to treat thoroughly.
10. As soon as you have treated the mattress and box spring to your satisfaction, cover each with one of the dust mite mattress enclosures and zip it up. If there are any bugs still alive or hatching, they will be unable to emerge. Continue to leave the bed in the room and examine every night to see if bed bugs are actually on the outside trying to find their way in. Keep a vacuum in the room at this point to vacuum up any strays that you may see at night, and vacuum the floor once or twice a day. Change the bag, or vacuum up the DE into the bag to kill the bugs inside the bag.
11. Take your time with this whole process because rushing through may cause you to miss a few bugs in the egg state, and then in a few months they will have multiplied and you then have to repeat this process over again. You surely don’t want to do that again. As painful as it may be for the resident of the infected room to be without their space, it would be best to wait 10 to 12 days before moving things back in. At the very least, wait until you observe two consecutive nights with no activity near the bed, baseboards and existing furniture.
12. Here’s the upside. While you have the rooms cleaned out and are waiting to move things back in, consider giving it a fresh coat of paint! That is what we did, and it was the silver lining to the whole process. We got rid of the bugs and ended up with a room that was very clean and de-cluttered.
Having bedbugs can certainly be a nightmare, but you don’t have to spend a couple thousand dollars with a pest control company and expose your family to all of those toxins which are not guaranteed to work. Take a deep breath, don’t panic, take your time, do it yourself, and do it safely.

Okay, so no one wants to even talk about this subject but we have to. Bed Bugs are a fact of life nowadays. Whether it's because they stopped using DDT or because people are traveling more (i.e. Olympics) or because they are becoming resilient to other residuals, the Bedbug problems is everyone's problem. One suggest is that 70% of people do not react to bedbug bites, some studies suggest 90% . This info was gathered from this report. Eradicating a bed bug infestation organically requires a methodical and disciplined approach. It will take up to twelve days depending upon the level of infestation and many life cycles. Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez (December 8, 1886 – November 24, 1957) was a prominent Mexican painter born in Guanajuato, Guanajuato, an active communist, and husband of Frida Kahlo (1929–1939 and 1940–1954). His large wall works in fresco helped establish the Mexican Mural Renaissance. Between 1922 and 1953, Rivera painted murals among others in Mexico City, Chapingo, Cuernavaca, San Francisco, Detroit, and New York City.[1] In 1931, a retrospective exhibition of his works was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Diego Rivera was born in Guanajuato, Guanajuato, to a well-to-do family. Rivera was descended, on his mother's side, from Jews who converted to Roman Catholicism,[2][3] and, on his father's side, from Spanish nobility. Diego had a twin brother named Carlos, who died two years after they were born.[4] From the age of ten, Rivera studied art at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City. He was sponsored to continue study in Europe by Teodoro A. Dehesa Méndez, the governor of the State of Veracruz.

Well this is really frigging crazy and I wouldn't recommend it, if you don't know what your doing, this guy obviously does though. I have always wanted to go see the cenotes and swim in them, since I first read about them in 1990, I hope that Angel and I will make it sometime soon.
Looks fabulous! My niece got to go with her family, they got some great pics. Projecting and praying we will go sometime soon too!

You do have to climb a long way down into them though, and the thing that makes me nervous, what if your too tired to climb back up, specially with a kid...so maybe we have to wait a bit for a reason.

This is Super Cool! I love this idea!! Too bad Angel's not old enough. Now they just have to do it for younger children.
For People Aged 14 - 18
Learn everything you need to know to grow your own food. Get hands on experience working in an organic vegetable garden and community orchard. Help maintain 2 greenhouses. Distribute thousands of vegetable plants to under-served communities in East Vancouver. Meet like minded youth from around Vancouver. Earn $ for your time and community service hours towards graduation.
Apprentices will be expected to dedicate 5 hours of time per week for a 12 week period beginning the week of March 14th and culminating June 13th. We will spend 2 hours on a weekday (after school hours) and 3 hours on the weekend together. At the completion of the 12 week program, apprentices will receive a certificate and letter of reference from the Environmental Youth Alliance, along with a cheque, or stipend, for their time.
To apply to the Community Nursery Youth Apprenticeship, e.mail or drop off a resume and brief cover letter explaining why you'd like to be a part of the program to:

It’s time to go! You’re just days away from your one/two/four year round-the-world trip. Hell, why even set dates? You may never come back. Screw reality, accountability and personal hygiene! You’re free!
Equally, if you haven’t planned suitably, you may be back in two weeks due to illness, mishap, theft, or your companion ditching you for being an unforgivable travel liability. A big component of this planning involves sensible packing.
I’ve observed two distinct styles for round-the-world packing:
The Boy Scout – be prepared for anything
and

The thing I found was we collected so much stuff and gave away tons when we left. Of course we did not travel around the world. We traveled to for a bit and then hunkered down. I guess we were a bit of the Boy Scout and the Lifeboat Survior.
Traveling with a kid, well I brought too much, as I brought toys and books, cds, and all sorts of things to comfort her, but she would have been fine on much less. Plus I took things you can't get there like lavender oil.
For our future travels I know we will be traveling much lighter.

This book is my bible. I actually have two copies, my original burned in the Zipolite fire in 2001, then I bought another, and then when my mom passed away I got her copy.
The information in here has been invaluable to me. I use aromatherapy for everything. Lavender and Eucalyptus have helped us some many times. We carried it with us to Mexico and pretty much had a panic attack when we ran out. I remember when we caught what we believe was the swine flu, Kata arrived like an angel and brought us two bottles. Hugs and kisses and excellent karma to you my dear for that.
Lavendar has so many uses and eucalyptus as well as my other faves Clary Sage, Geranium and Rosewood. I am sure you'll find your faves too.

So cool I saw this yesterday. Yogi Cameron was on Dr. Oz http://www.doctoroz.com/. Normally I don't even watch TV and especially not during the day..but who knows why, that was what happened and this is the wonderful information I was gifted with.
I always remember the first time I visited Zipolite and went to Shambhala http://adventurezinmexico.blogspot.com/2010/09/shambhala-in-zipolite-oaxaca-mexico.html.
I arrived in the evening and in the morning when I awoke and opened my shutters I rewarded with the most incredible sunrise and 2 girls on the beach doing the most beautiful yoga poses in the sand. What a first impression!
Since then I have always wanted to do yoga. I have watched people on the beach and there is a fabulous yoga center - The Solstice http://www.solstice-mexico.com/index.php, in Zipolite that I always wanted to attend... but it hasn't come together.
I have been thinking alot more about Yoga lately, but his demonstration on Ayurveda medicine really touched a point with me. Daniel -Gloria's (Shambhala Vision-Zipolite) brother had talked to me about this ancient practice, but I didn't get it. That was over 10 years ago, and now I am finally understanding this all so much more.
So I just wanted to share this info with you. I am going to buy this book today - " The Guru In You" http://yogicameron.com/index.php and it's my dream that Angel and I can go to India http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India and learn about this more and really make this part of our life. That's my dream...

The more I think about this it's really frightening, because it's all about the people with money controlling it all and having access to it all. It's expensive now for the internet and now less people will have access, poorer people will have less or no access and so people are less empowered.

Starved For Attention

Here in BC we have a huge child poverty problem, and it's nothing compared to Africa and similar places damaged by war and natural disasters. I can not do much but I can share this info with you. By sharing and talking about it, we can enlighten people and hopefully not turn away.
The thing that I have noticed is that some people have so much wealth they just can not even comprehend what it would be like to have no groceries in the house, or their child being hungry and having to say "I'm sorry, but that's all we have right now."
The world is so distorted, as people zoom around and street race in their super expensive cars and go home to their $500,000 home, to watch their big screen TV and text their friends on their Iphones.
What can we do? They say, I work hard for my money. I earned it! I deserve it.
Well maybe so, but just remember that it will come back to bite you. Karma does. Those hungry little kids, they will be damaged, and their brains are not going to be the super intelligent healthy working organs they could be, it's anybody guess where their path will take them, with out food, with out love..
Imagine if you were hungry..and their was no food in your home,.. Really, I mean actually try to imagine this.. and you had no money, maybe no parents, maybe no one to love you and help you ...I know it sounds like one of those commercials that we so conveniently flick the channel on.
Maybe though just from reading this, or looking at this link with the stories, maybe people will think twice about buying that super expensive blouse, or jacket, or piece of jewelry or car...and think do I really need this. What could I do with $500 if I were to try and help someone.
Do you know how many groceries that can buy, in Canada, in Mexico, in Africa...
$500 would buy 100 packages of lasagna, or oatmeal, or gallons of milk and that's in Canada..imagine in Mexico, or Africa...can you see these kids gaining weight already, and their beautiful little brains, and bodies and spirits growing leaps and bounds, not just from the food, but because they would know "someone cares" somebody out there actually cares..and there is hope...
Otherwise what is there...just a bunch of stuff...without people it's just stuff...and who needs it...isn't a beautiful little life more valuable than some stuff!

Imagine if you were hungry..and their was no food in your home,.. Really, I mean actually try to imagine this.. and you had no money, maybe no parents, maybe no one to love you and help you ...I know it sounds like one of those commercials that we so conveniently flick the channel on.
Maybe though just from reading this, or looking at this link with the stories, maybe people will think twice about buying that super expensive blouse, or jacket, or piece of jewelry or car...and think do I really need this. What could I do with $500 if I were to try and help someone.
Do you know how many groceries that can buy, in Canada, in Mexico, in Africa...
$500 would buy 100 packages of lasagna, or oatmeal, or gallons of milk and that's in Canada..imagine in Mexico, or Africa...can you see these kids gaining weight already, and their beautiful little brains, and bodies and spirits growing leaps and bounds, not just from the food, but because they would know "someone cares" somebody out there actually cares..and there is hope...
Otherwise what is there...just a bunch of stuff...without people it's just stuff...and who needs it...isn't a beautiful little life more valuable than some stuff!

When Angel was smaller, if someone asked her, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" "I'm going to be a bee doctor" she would proudly state.
She had it all figured out, until one day she told me, "Mom, bees are too small, I can't bring the ambulance and operate on them" and so we moved on ... but we still have a huge LOVE of bees, especially as Angel has a talent for holding bees.
This article is very upsetting, but very enlightening and really not at all surprising because these same principles are being applied to pharmaceutical studies and other products. Things get grandfathered in even though they are known to cause cancer, and studies that could expose dangerous elements, & products do not receive funding so that potentially damaging products get passed and are being used by people assuming that the governments and the review boards are supposedly protecting them.
So like this man says we can all do our part, do your best to get informed and then share it, break it down so that the average person can understand it. Make a video, photograph it, help kids understand it. We owe it to them, they have to go forth and carry on, let's give them what they need to survive.
Let's face it, everyone that saw the BEE MOVIE, knows that we can't survive without bees.

The town fair is awesome, there is a parade through town and they have the giant paper mache dolls that the get inside and then dance and it's so funny. There is a band that plays and it is such a wonderful culture experience. The 2nd year they had baskets and they put the baskets on your head and danced or threw candy, Angel loved it. The year before she got to carry a star. The second night are the rides and the kids have wonderful time. It's a lot of fun, there is even some kind of greased pole where the youths of the community climb the pole to get the presents at the top. Pretty crazy. We really had fun. We will miss it this year! Angel loved the dragon ride, she loved all the rides.

On a winter day in Yellowknife,Northwest Territories, Canada, I boiled water and threw it in the air where it "evaporated" and turned into fog.
Apparently Evaporated is not the correct term, but what ever it is, it's super cool!!

Tashka Yawanawa describes how isolated their village is and what daily life is like. How they live in harmony with nature. He speaks of the history of the Yawana, how many people developed decease and were used as slaves as the Rubber Cappers, and how the tribe lost many people and was on the brink of the extinction, but now there numbers are getting better.
He won a scholarship and went to the U.S. and learned English and he married a Mexican woman. They were planning to go back to Mexico when he was asked to come back to his community.
They wanted him to be the Chief and Shaman, he said "No, your making a mistake" but they told him they had had a vision and they told him they would help and support him.
400 people are now 700.

They went to the media to give attention to the community from international community so that the Brazil government would change the area of the territory so that they could sustain themselves
They are working on green solutions, for travel with vehicles. They were using diesel. So now they are using a type of seed to make a vegetable oil for the motors on the boats. They need to use the boats at this time otherwise it's 7 days paddling to get to the nearest community.
They bring their spiritual and beliefs to their business models. Aveda uses special "environmental products" from Yawanawa people is just one of their projects. Their economic projects are going well, one of which is a center of healing and ceremony and education outsiders about their community.

One guys quest to find the owner of a film canister he finds while skiing. He thinks they're very European.
Someone gives him $26, so he posts this to try to find the owner.
