Beach Walk the other night-Playa Zipolite #AdventurezInMexico

It was a lovely walk, the water was really shallow in parts and Angel had great fun walking in the water but sadly we found two dead baby turtles.

It made me really sad. Never seen that before. We looked at them for a bit and then put them in the ocean where they belonged. Our friend said maybe they'd been released from Mazunte but just didn't make it.

The walk in the after noon was really gorgeous, the sunset was spectacular. Felt very blessed. Sending you all lots of love and light. Stay tuned for more #AdventurezInMexico

YVR airport to San Cristobal de Las Casas #AdventurezInMexico

Adventurez In Mexico is a blog about the Journey of a Canadian Mother and Child(whose father is Mexican) and their Adventurez and they travel, learn and explore the Mexican landscapes, language and cultural traditions.

Tina, who goes by Cristina aqui and Angel, but they like to call her Angela, became pregant in Mexico but due to circumstances such as 9//11 and other issues returned to Canada to have her child. She could not return until Angel was 6, then again at 7 and at 10, she managed to get the money to come to Mexico for 5 months. The father helped with the first trip but after Tina has raised her child alone as the child's father is poor. Oaxaca is a very poor state. People are lucky if the make $20 a day. Now Tina, me, I have managed to get back for Angel's 15th year, a very important year in a young Mexican woman's life. We will have a tiny Quinceañera
But really just coming to Mexico is the gift. Stay tuned for our Adventurez In Mexico as we will be here until the end of February. Follow along and learn what it is like to live like Mexicans in Oaxaca do. Come visit. Come to Zipolite, West Jet is going to have a big sale in November...if you coming please let me know...I need some things, like eucalytus oil and probably more lavender.

a bunk bed, so Angel can have her own bed

Zipolita (Cristina) y Angelita (Angela) really Tina and Angel but they change our names here..
They don't like the name Tina...it means bathtub and they think Angel is a boy's or mans name so they change it...to Angela. Different cultures...did you learn something...we will teach you lots.

I LOVE MEXICO!!

I REALLY MISS MEXICO!

Everyone who is going down for Spring Break, you are so lucky. Of course, I don't really care for the super busy times, I prefer quieter times...at the beach in Zipolite but I have had the most amazing beautiful experiences all over Mexico.

Beautiful people, angels that have dropped everything and come to help me, whether it was to return a Spanish Dictionary I left in the cab or drive me around and around to find a hotel when all the budget ones were booked. Lovely souls.

But you get what you give, so be loving, kind, respectful, I can not stress this enough.

Remember while you vacation during the holidays, many Mexican people work.

Give and share love and kindness.

HOLA AMIGOS!! FELIZ NAVIDAD! I can't sleep, I got up and was going to meditate but watched this Short Film of Adventurez in Mexico instead (See bottom of post!). It's 32 minutes, just so you know but it has lots of pretty scenery and you can really get a good feel of Mexico and it has music so I hope you'll enjoy it..

It brings back such great memories. Angel was so little, time has really flown. So if you can't go on Christmas vacation and you need a little break, check this out!!

Today they celebrate a very special day in Mexico. It is a very sad day but people who celebrate Dia del Los Angelitos remember the child who have passed on in a very beautiful loving way.

Toys are brought for dead children (los angelitos, or "the little angels"), and bottles of tequila, mezcal or pulque or jars of atole for adults. Families will also offer trinkets or the deceased's favorite candies on the grave. Ofrendas are also put in homes, usually with foods such as candied pumpkin, pan de muerto ("bread of dead"), and sugar skulls and beverages such as atole. The ofrendas are left out in the homes as a welcoming gesture for the deceased.^[4] Some people believe the spirits of the dead eat the "spiritual essence" of the ofrendas food, so though the celebrators eat the food after the festivities, they believe it lacks nutritional value. Pillows and blankets are left out so the deceased can rest after their long journey. In some parts of Mexico such as the towns of Mixquic, Pátzcuaro and Janitzio, people spend all night beside the graves of their relatives. In many places people have picnics at the grave site, as well.
Some families build altars or small shrines in their homes;^[4] these usually have the Christian cross, statues or pictures of the Blessed Virgin Mary, pictures of deceased relatives and other persons, scores of candles and an ofrenda. Traditionally, families spend some time around the altar, praying and telling anecdotes about the deceased. In some locations celebrants wear shells on their clothing, so when they dance, the noise will wake up the dead; some will also dress up as the deceased.
Public schools at all levels build altars with ofrendas, usually omitting the religious symbols. Government offices usually have at least a small altar, as this holiday is seen as important to the Mexican heritage

Change of Plans- Off to School we go!!

So a change of plans. Change is good!! I am going back to school. It's been 13 years since I been a program with exams and where lots of studying is involved. Yikes! But it's all good.

It's what I prayed for, meditated for and projected. I was sooo happy yesterday you couldn't wipe the smile off my face if you tried! That is when I got the final okay!! So I am in a deep state of gratitude!

It's a good program at a great school here in Vancouver. It's Emily Carr! And the program is funded. It was quite the odd situation as it's only funded for people who have very low or no income.
Sadly that's me.

I've tried. I think you can see that, I have tried with my blogging, my photography, my web design, my social media, my videos, my book publishing. Yet it's not enough. I don't have quite the right skills the industry is calling for. I was stuck. I couldn't upgrade because I didn't have the funds.

Now though, I have been very blessed and this will all change. I will be learning more Wordpress, using current design applications like the latest Adobe programs and I'll be learning how to make apps. And that's a biggy.

Angel knows more about apps than me. I asked her...so if someone wanted to know what are apps and what are they for? What would you tell them.. and she launched into all this.

2. tips
3. games w/tips for real life gaming. -I didn't know this :(
4. most important- they have to be fun- or if they are boring everyone will uninstall (smart kid!)
5. Cost- Free- $1 or $2 - paid apps are usually $1 she tells me.

So what else do I need to know.
Well she says...
Will it have physics? What will the controls look like and where will they be?

And she goes on...

So see I have to catch up. I have to go back and learn because I am only 51 and in Canada we have to work to 67 to get retirement...I have a long ways to go and I have to take care of my girl. I want the best for her that I can give. I want to learn this new technology and use it in a "green way!"

Something cool happened. Have you heard of the GREEN SCHOOL? http://www.greenschool.org/ I saw something on CBC about it and then googled it and found a Tedtalks video and learned a lot more.

I would love for Angel to go there. Wouldn't it be so cool for us to go there for a year and then go to Zipolite and try and start one there.

Well that's my new dream/goal.

So until then we are both in school. Angel has to go to school if I go. So we are school kids together now and unfortunately we won't be going to Mexico this year. Well not until at least March...when my program ends and then only if miracles happen and we have the funds.

We sure will miss it, but Angel did want to spend Christmas here, so we are all getting our wishes to come true.

Isn't life AMAZING!!

Anyways, I just wanted to share that I put some little support thingys on the right side there. Since I will be super busy with the program and they really discourage you from working while in the program as they want you fully committed...things are going to be tough...when aren't they..right!

But at least after this program things will get better.

Sand Fleas: How I Deal with Them & other Tips

So a friend of mine was at the beach and he was going crazy. I know because I saw the 4am post on his Facebook page. It was the sandfleas, he was having a terrible time. He said they were attacking his feet and he couldn't sleep. He also said he thought he might be allergic.

I understand totally. I have this same problem.

Many years ago now, I went out to dinner and we were sitting at a table right on the beach, watching the sun go down and that's when I started getting bit. I had forgot to put any thing on to prevent bites as I had just arrived that day. Someone had invited me and so I couldn't just leave. I kept getting bit all thru dinner. I was horrible. As soon as dinner was over I said goodbye and made a fast get away. The next day my legs we covered. I was awful. I had huge welts. I looked like I had the chicken poxs on my legs.

Oh my god, it was so itchy. I kept covering my legs with lavender and calamine and everything I could think of. I survived...but now I am highly allergic to all bites it seems.

When we are in Mexico I get bit, and I itch and it swells but I have some tricks for sand fleas. And this is what I share with my friend the other day.

Amigo, hi, you may want to get an enclosed room, that will help a lot. Where we stay in Zipolite at .... it's basically enclosed, no palapa roof, and I have a broom and I am constantly sweeping and cleaning my room as the sand tracks in so easily and the sand flies get you.

I also wash the floor often and spray it with my oils.

Once I stupidly lit incense and filled a bottle with sand to put it in without it falling over...then brought it inside. Dumb, dumb,dumb!! I couldn't figure out why I was being bit so bad all of a sudden.

I put a towel by the door at night along the crack at the bottom and where there was a crack in the window Angel and I stuffed toilet paper.

Sand fleas are a real issue for me. That's why I start to panic when I run out of lavender and citronella and eucalyptus. Always carry Benadryl.

Sometimes you just end up with a 3 or 4 bites and they make you crazy. Benadryl in a pill form will make you sleep and next day the bites will not be itchy or at least bareable.

The cream does not work. If you don't address it at that stage they can get infected.

The first year Angel broke out very bad with little blisters..if you get a blister, what ever you do, do not pop it, the fluid inside will spread and you will get more. It's nasty.

I was lucky this last time and before I left I got a bottle with like 100 pills Bendryl for $15 and I was helping out a lot of people. They would tell me what happened and I would ask them if they wanted to try it and later they'd thank me so much.

Just google sand fleas to read up on them more. The usually feed on what ever is with in 10 feet. They are in the sand and it's so easy to track it into your room, bed, etc.

So these are my tips, I go as natural as I can but because I am highly allergic I have to take action sometimes with the Bendryl, I try to avoid it at all cost but it's a necessary evil I guess.

I also take it for bee and wasp stings, which has happened to me also and I swell up horribly and it's very painful. Twice I have stepped on them with barefeet at pools... they are drinking the water in puddles from when you get in and out...so watch out!! I could barely walk for days until I gave in and took the Benadryl.

For mosquitos, sandfleas & heat rash here is the other advice I gave

I use citronella. I put 10 drops in a little bottle and spray myself when ever, especially at dusk...the worse time. I also put a dab of lavender oil every time I get a bite until it feels better. Lavender oil mixed with water helps with the heat rash too.

I carry those everywhere I go. But I remember being there at the end of May once and out of lavender and seriously wanted to go home because of the heat rash. http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.ca/2011/03/essential-oils-where-they-come-from.html at the bottom of this page is a great book, it's my bible. Zipolite- Our Final Days - Part 2

This collection of photos and videos are from our final days in Zipolite in January and February 2013.

If you follow my blog http://adventurezinmexico.blogspot.mx/ you will know that my computer broke just after I managed to upload all the videos from Shambhala's Karma Cleansing.

Strangely or maybe not that strange as I guess it was a projection as I said that in January I would stop working on the computer and spend more time enjoying the sunrises.

So that's what happened. Over the next while I spent my morning walking the beach and sometimes up to the Mediation Point.

This is the second of 5 videos...I'm still working on them,...might be more or less. I was able to take some lovely photos and I am happy to share them with you now. Enjoy!!!

Homeschool- Think Outside the Box

Sunshine Coast Homeschooling

Angel is homeschooled.
Three years ago when we were here in Zipolite we connected with our friends who started this page. Sunshine Coast Homeschooling

We've only connected once in person since then but we've connected in Facebook and on Skype.

People ask me all the time about Angel's schooling and I have to go into this big explanation. I don't have to but somehow I feel if I don't they will think I'm not doing anything. The pro side to explaining the many issues we've encountered, it opens doors to conversation about the current education system, problems with bullying, edible schoolyards and many other interesting topics.

Anyways my friend is sharing some great things on her board and I add a few things here and there so check it out!

YES!!!! The world is our school. It's what God intented!!!

These are super cute pig breads that she makes with her kids, I want to try these but make little buns. :D

This powerful image will open many discussions with children if time is taken to do so. "Be grateful for what you have!!"

We tried the school system here and encountered many issues and in the end decided that for us homeschooling is best. Everyone needs to do what's best for them. We have the Grade 5 Canadian Curriculum book that Angel works on and besides that she spends many hours drawing, sewing and she also likes to work on the computer. She plays/works on a site where they build stories together. She also likes to take photos of her drawings, put them into Paint, add colours and then she puts them in movie maker adds music and voice overs and makes her own little videos.

I'm really PROUD of her. She's also a good editor and I need her to read my work more often to catch my mistakes ;) LOL!

Traveling is incredibly valuable for learning new languages, different cultures, geography, cuisine and art. Exposing a child to these colourful difference feeds a childs mind and encourages the imagination.

We have been blessed to travel. Yet we have traveled on a tight budget and she understands the value of things and is grateful for the many things we have that others don't.

Angel is also learning Spanish and she often corrects me now, which is darn annoying, but I am grateful for that in her lifetime she will be able to communicate much better and with more people than I have been able to.
