All is well in Mexico. If you have ever wanted to come to Mexico, now is the year. If you fly into Mexico City you can get a good deal on airfare. Bus are better than Canada and they are really economical.

Here a video showing the damage done to Posada del Arquitecto. I am not familiar with this Posada but I do love Mazunte. Mazunte is a lovely laid back place, similar to Zipolite but a little more expensive. I hope people will help out where they can.

Zipolite's Shambhala Hit Hard by Hurricane Carlotta

Oct 16/2012 UPDATE : Shambhala is RECOVERING WELL! Please see the following link for new photos & videos

http://adventurezinmexico.blogspot.mx/2012/10/shambhala-vision-recovering-well-after.html

Shambhala Vision has a NEW website.  http://shambhalavision.blogspot.mx/

You can contact Shambhala on the Facebook page but keep in mind there is no signal up there right now so they get to it when they can. Gracias for understanding. :) https://www.facebook.com/shambhalavision

Poor Shambhala, Poor Zipolite, the news is not good.

Thankfully no one lost their lives but it's really a disaster and as with all these things help is slow. People are just realizing how badly damaged things are. There is no water or lights. It's hot and there is no electricity for fans. Apparently there are lots of singing frogs that have appearred and it's very hard as one might imagine to sleep.

I am praying for my friends and family affected by this terrible Hurricane Carlotta. I am praying the government will get help to the people who have been badly affected by the hurricane so they can get on there feet again.

This year will be an important tourism year for Mexico and it's important the people of Zipolite can recover and benefit from it as the rest of Mexico will.

Poor Zipolite, it's so sad. It's just amazing that no one was killed. It's so sad about all the beautiful flowers and trees and all the peoples home and businesses that have been damaged or worse destroyed.

I visited Zipolite in 1999, two years after Hurricane Paulina and Gloria of Shambhala told me the scary story of how she had to hang on to the roof otherwise it would have blown away. Gloria is amazing but she getting on in years and her health has not been the best. I ask you all to please take a moment and say a prayer for Gloria and for Shambhala and for all the people she has working for her so that they can recover.

I love Shambhala. We love the meditation point and I was so looking forward to doing yoga up there and watching the birds and the ocean and just meditating. The sunset is so beautiful. We love the Karma Kleansing Ceremonies!

I'll keep you posted on things as I hear them. Here are some links you can check.

Stay Strong Gloria! We love you! We're Praying for you!
Stay Strong Zipolite and all our of loved ones and amigos at the Roca Blanca and Posada Esmeralda and to Franco and Slyvia and Javier, Tomasa and Juanito and everyone who has been so kind to us over the years, we send you many prayers and blessings and positive energy that everything comes together and you can all unite and make Zipolite even better- Greener, more Eco-friendly, solar, wind power???

I'm praying that lots of opportunities come your way and everyone can look at the door opening and not the one that closed.

I know after the fire people really pulled together and you'd be amazed how fast things got cleaned up and I know the people of Zipolite will overcome this and be better than ever and it will look like this again!!. Viva Shamhala!! https://www.facebook.com/shambhalavision

**Update June 16- 7:05 PST- I have seen a few photos, the place beside La Choza was flatten, there is a lot of debris and damage on the main street, but I know from the past that the people of Zipolite will have it cleaned up quickly. I only saw a few photos you can see them on the Facebook page for Zipolite. I am still waiting to hear how Roca Blanca Posada and Shambhala faired. There are alot of trees down so it will be a bit.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/5258919189/

Carlotta has passed Zipolite now, but we haven't had actual word from anyone. There have been reports that there are no lights or power, I'm sure it's going to take a while for that to get fixed. I'm saying prayers everyone is safe and there is not to much damage. Someone posted that they had talked to their family, and that all was fine, just lots of trees down and no cells or electricity.

Here is a video of Casa De Sol. I believe it's right behind Shambhala so it will give you a good indication of what happened there yesterday.

Please lets collectively put our minds together and push this Hurricane Carlotta AWAY.
GO AWAY CARLOTTA! GO AWAY! Out to sea, away from land.

I'm saying prayers to please protect all our family and friends and keep the out of harms way.

Prayer - Hurricanes
In the name of the all- powerful Creator
I invoke you, great Angel Zamiel,
As the Angel of Hurricanes,
To calm the fury of this terrible storm.
May you divert it from it's path from the most vulnerable places
to blow itself out where few can come to harm
I honor and thank you for hearing my prayer
In the name of the Almighty.

Well lots is changing...I messed up my blogs a bit the other day and so I decided to re vamp them. I did a little tonight but still need to work on them, so stay tuned. Also lots is changing in that we are going to take a bit of a media break. We are going woofing- which means to work on an organic farm and we are going to be traveling and so I won't be online as much. Well that's where I am. I just wanted to share that with you so you won't be wondering. Okay, so now you know. :)

So sad about I'll Have Another, but at least they had two fabulous races. The part that I really enjoyed was that it sort of brought Mexico, Canada & the U.S. together and everyone was happy rooting for the same thing. I also loved that connection of the Mexican Jockey, training at our very own Hastings Park Raceway and then going to the U.S to win the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. Very Cool!

THEY DID IT!!

Mario & I'll Have Another Win Kentucky Derby

It was so cool, we were going out to a celebrate Cinco de Mayo and it was also a Birthday Party. I knew the  race was on at 3:26 pm PST but forgot as I was getting Angel ready. I was just braiding her hair when I said..."Oh No, What time is it?"  It was 3:25...Yikes, I started flicking channels, I couldn't find it and we had to leave in a bit....so I kept braiding and she was flicking the channels and we found it.

They closed the gates and THEY WERE OFF!  I couldn't tell who was who...I didn't know the colours or numbers but I was shouting "GO MARIO" (who's Mario my girl asks), "GO I'LL HAVE ANOTHER" I keep shouting!!

We couldn't tell what was going on...and I was trying to explain to my girl what was going on...and we could hear them saying and I'll Have Another...and I kept shouting "Go,Go,Go" and then at the end, suddenly it was over.

I was like "wonder who won" and then it said unofficial winner "I'll Have Another"

I couldn't believe it. I was so happy I was crying. It was just the neatest thing ever.

I had tried to place a bet online but it won't accept bets outside U.S. and I had a friend who was working near the track and had asked him...but he didn't get to because he was to busy...but I would have won. How cool is that. Alot of people did I heard. Lots of people in Vancouver bet.

Yes it was a Super Cool Race. I just really fell in love with the whole story because of the connections...a Mexican, who had worked in Vancouver, went to the U.S. and won the Kentucky Derby. A union between 3 countries. Really cool.

There was so much confusion after the race...it seem like magic or something happened, a miracle. Super cool. Congratulations Mario Gutierrez and I'll Have Another. WELL DONE!!!

Here's an interesting story Mario Gutierrez of Mexico, who has been working in Vancouver at the Hastings Park Raceway is now about to race the Kentucky Derby on a horse called I'll Have Another!

YOU GO MARIO!! GO I'LL HAVE ANOTHER!! Super Cool! BEST OF  LUCK! YOU WILL DO IT! We are all cheering for you!

For former Hastings Racecourse jockey Mario Gutierrez, the long journey toward fulfilling his childhood dream has finally become a reality. When he climbs aboard J. P. Reddam’s I’ll Have Another for Saturday’s 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, he will be living out his fantasy. In fact, Gutierrez may perhaps become the unlikeliest jockey to ever ride in North America’s biggest race.Read more in THE PROVINCE: http://www.theprovince.com/Kentucky+Derby+Mario+Gutierrez+living+every+jockey+dream/6556205/story.html#ixzz1u0okj4Zd

Within minutes of the earthquake on March 20/ 2012 we had confirmation that our relatives in Mexico City were okay. Thank God for Facebook.

We still have not heard from anyone in Zipolite, Mazunte, Huatulco or Pochutla.

I imagine it is because the electricity is cut. Please let me know how you are and if there's anything we can do.

Tina's Traveling Tips

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011
http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com
http://twitter.com/#!/zipolita @zipolita
http://gplus.to/zipolita Google+

This was sort of lost so I'm re-sharing it here.

Tina's Travel Tips!

Here's just a few tips that I would like to share, there are tons more lists and articles on what to take and do, at Lonely Planet and other great sites like that, but this is just what I would tell someone, one mom to another if your considering big trip.

Good Shoes - Sandals and Runners - and not brand new, make sure they are broke in, you can't be dealing with blisters.

Jeans  & Sweaters for buses that ALWAYS have super cold air-conditioning. The First Class buses always have very chilly air conditioning and you don't want to catch a cold at the beginning of your trip because you were freezing in the bus, trust me. (If you have a cold, becareful as the air conditioning can really make it worse)

If you get a cold, I LOVE lavender and eucalyptus, but if you don't have these, Halls- Lemon cough candies and Vicks Vapour Rub will really help. Also carry Dramimine or Gravol if you can get it, Bendryl for Sandflea bites and other stings that may cause an allergic reaction, Tylenol for kids or in Mexico Paraceptemol (I think, check the spelling), and you can get Pepto -Bismol tablets for pesos so pick up a few and if you have a funny tummy pop one, and I rub on some lavender. Works great!

Small Fleece Blanket (like those on the airplane) these are awesome, and /or a fleece jacket, they keep you nice and snuggly and are very all purpose. Check Mountain Equipment Co-op for great deals and choices or the second-hand stores to really keep your budget in check.

Comfort Toys- We collected so many gifts/toys while we were traveling. People are so generous and both years we came home with an extra bag, just toys. Of course we had Christmas there, so all that stuff had to come and then just lots of little souvenirs. Be prepared for this extra bag, instead of buying another suitcase we got a sugar sack and used that, it worked excellently.

ALWAYS CHECK FOR TOYS WHEN LEAVING YOUR ROOM!  This was the worse mistake I made, and did it right at the start of the journey. When we left Cancun, I was frazzled, as I realized I had too much luggage(had stocked up for the journey) and I had forgotten our hats somewhere and had to go back and then it started raining...so in all the craziness of running around and getting the bus tickets and gathering everything...I looked at the bed, and thought of making it...then thought " why bother they have to make it anyway"

BIG MISTAKE!!

That's where Pink Wings -Angel's dragon was hiding, as she'd gone to sleep with him. So there, you've been warned, don't make my mistake.

I don't wear makeup so I don't have advice about that. Except if you get sunscreen in your eyes because your sweating profusely, and it makes your mascara run, ...well it's not pretty!

Basics - comb & brush and hairstuff (When traveling I usually don't use a curling iron or blow dryer) I do take them along though, especially in the mountains, so that you can dry your hair after the cold shower, to make sure you don't have wet hair in bed. I suggest a toque also, can help keep you warm at night in the mountains or just freak rainy days that are chilly to us Canadians because we take heating for granted.

Pack as light as possible. Lonely Planet says, pack and halve it, then halve again. I do this to and it's good advice but it's hard when your going 5 months or so, and you've got a kid in tow. Just remember you can get alot of stuff there...but can you afford it, as prices can be more

KEEP ONE HAND FREE FOR YOUR CHILD!  You just don't know when your going to have to pull your child out of the way of something...so Always keep a free hand and be alert! Keep this in mind when you buy your pack/luggage/knapsack/purse.

Be sure to have some US cash! The first return trip from Mexico, our card did not work in the ATM machine and would not give us US cash.  I always remember this as, Angel was tired &  hungry, we were connecting flights and the machine wasn't working.  I had asked the Security Guard if he knew of another machine, and he said "No!" I was about to try it again, and the Security Guard returned and gave his cookies to Angel. I almost started to cry! It was so sweet and we were so tired. The second year were more prepared. I have found when you travel, you will meet "lots of little angels like that!"

Food is outrageously expensive in airports. There should be a law against it. Seriously! :)

Be prepared that if your flight is later in the evening, even though it says "meal" on the airline website, they will only give you pretzels, make sure you buy something in the airport to take on the plane. This only works once your in the U.S. leaving for Canada because you leave your garbage on the plane. You can't take food from Canada to Mexico...because your clear 3 customs...

A Dvd player can really comfort a child after a long day travelling. They will definitely have Culture Shock to some degree, depending on what they have experienced before. Putting them in bed with a movie will help them relax and help them have the time they need to adjust to the new environment. Later on you'll have the beach and books and they will forget all about TV and Movies and you can just have the Dvd as a special treat!

Art Supplies are hard to find, especially watercolour paper. Best to bring your own if possible.

They have a New Malecon in Puerto Vallarta. I miss Puerto Vallarta, it's the first place I visited in Mexico close to 23 years ago now. When I took Angel there we had a lot of fun checking out the alien sea creatures, which I'm very happy to see are still there.

When I heard they were changing it I was worried and I heard there were some schuffles as to changes they were trying to make but it looks lovely and very similar. Check it out!! Wish I was there!

So here we are! Here we are again, at the end of another year. Today's a very Special Day! A day of endings and a day of beginnings.

A time of Resolutions. I'm making a few.

Tonight is a beautiful night in Zipolite. I am not positive it's happening because I am not there, but it's been going on for so many years...I am sure it's about to happen.

Gloria in "The Moment!" Photo by Tina Winterlik  © 2009

Angel and Gloria in the moment. This is such a truly magical ceremony. The chanting, candles, flowers, fire, Shaman, dancing, everything about it embodies the "best of every belief" is what Gloria told me and it is so true.   I LOVE this photo of Gloria. It captures all the beauty and harmony and love of the moment, so much hard hard work goes into it, and it's not cheap and Gloria manages it somehow. It would be nice if people donate as it's a wonderful gift of generousity on Gloria's part. Anyways, the year's we went it was free and it was awesome!

We were blessed to go to two Karma Cleansing Ceremonies and I eagerly look forward to my next. Which for now I project is next year. I wish it was sooner. At least I have all these great photos to help me re-live it all.

Giant Wind Plant in Oaxaca Mexico

Just read this, that Mexico is building a Giant Wind Plant in the state of Oaxaca in a place called La Ventosa.

A loan of 1.1 billion Mexican pesos (around $72 million) to Mareña Renovables Capital was approved.

Quoted from Earthtechling : “This operation, given the size of the project, is a significant step in the development of viable renewable energy projects in Latin America,’’ Jeff Easum, team leader of the project. Please Watch this Excellent Video about the Belo Monte Dam in Brazil

This video was created as part of the Gota D'água (Drop of Water) Movement lead by Brazilian celebrities. The campaign aims to stimulate the discussion on the energy development plan of Brazil. It also calls civil society to stand up against the Belo Monte dam, signing into a petition that the Movement did addressed to President Dilma asking for halting the dam's construction. Let's be a drop of water in this wave of goodness in name of true sustainable development, and protection of human rights, indigenous rights and the forest! Hey!! This Blog Adventurez in Mexico has been nominated for the Ninjamatics 2011 Canadian Weblog Awards in the Best New Weblog, Art & Photography, Life and Travel categories.

The 2011 Canadian Weblog Awards are a juried competition with nominations open in 37 categories between January 1st and October 31st, 2011.

The nominees shortlist will be announced on December 1st, 2011, and the winners will be announced on January 1, 2012.

2011 Canadian Weblog Awards

I'm so excited!! This is so cool as just the other day I was thinking maybe I should put this puppy to bed. I mean I don't get paid for blogging, I don't even have ads or a donate button. I have tested both but for the ads, well I didn't care for the products and well the donate no one did, so just left my blog pure.

I do love to share though and that's what drives me to blog.

It's lovely to acknowledged and to win this would be really fabulous. Congrats to all the nominees! P.S. My blog Tina Winterlik is nominated too!
