Don Muchos, El Panchan, Kim Balam, Palenque, Chiapas

I just love Palenque. And when Angel was 6 I took her on the same journey we just took. We started in Cancun and then bussed to Merida, then Palenque, San Cristobal de las Casas and then to Zipolite...this time we stopped in Huatulco before Zipolite.

Anyways, we stayed a Kim Balam... I don't think it was called that the first time..but what I remembered was reading about El Panchan and then we got there and met all sorts of cool people and had fun at the ruins and ate at Don Muchos and Angel loved the chocolate milk.

When we arrived this time she was so tired. We had spent 2 days in Cancun, then bused to Merida and then spent 4 hours in the bus depot and took the night bus to Palenque so we could save on the hotel and also because we needed to make time..and get to Zipolite asap to secure a room because high season is coming.

So when we got there I just let her sleep and I went over to Don Muchos and ordered a lovely seafood pasta to go. It was super yummy. We went into town that night and got our bus tix for San Cristobal and for Huatulco.

We went to the Ruins the next day and it was wonderful. We took a camieta up and walked back. We wanted to go to Agua Azul and Mishol-ha but just didn't have the cash. Hopefully we will get to there next time. It had been raining a lot so they would be brown and not blue so maybe there was a reason we just weren't supposed to go. The little creek by our cabana rose really high with all the water. It was not the usual. They said they thought maybe the earthquake changed something. As it was the waterfall at Palenque was really flowing so that was beautiful!

I loved our room at Kim Balam Cabanas. It's the same one we had when Angel was six. Brought back so many memories. Lots of fun! We could here the howler monkeys and we even saw one. So that was really cool. We had a great time.

Here are 2 videos I made of Don Muchos. I will make more of Kim Balam and others. Took a ton of photos at the ruins and the whole trip. I can only put up small video right now because internet is slow. I will put up a movie when we get back to Canada I guess.

Don't take your high speed internet for granted. We are extremely blessed to have it and many people just don't realize it.

Actually when we were at Kim Balam and Don Muchos there was no internet. The earthquake messed it up. It messed me up a bit but there was free Wi-fi at the ADO bus station and that really was a life saver because it helped me book my hotel for San Cristobal. That's another story...I will save for the next post.

Here's some photos from Zipolite that I took this week. I have video I want to post but the internet is slow after the earthquake and it takes quite a while but I will post little ones in a bit. And the big movie will have to wait until we get back to Canada in February most likely.

A Beach Wedding Video

Buenos Dias!! How's everyone doing today? Had a great weekend. I was passing a local establishment and I could see they were setting up for a wedding. I inquired if they had a photographer and they said they had lots of people to take photos. I asked if I could and the bride asked if I was a Professional Photographer and I told her "Yes". She asked if she had to pay and I said "No", as I just wanted to do it for fun, with no pressure and because I'm not allowed to work here under Mexicos laws...yet, I hope to get my papers...

Anyways I got the go ahead. The sad thing was it clouded over just before the wedding, and just as the groom was standing waiting for her, and she was about to walk the aisle down the sandy beach, IT POURED!!

Pobre Sita! Poor Girl! She called everyone in and luckily I had a umbrella, I was the only one, I held it over the mother-of-the-bride as she came in. I had it because I didn't want my camera to get wet.

The wedding was BEAUTIFUL! They had it under the canopy/roof in the front of the building. The lighting was great as it was soft and so I was able to get some really nice shots without harsh shadows.

The bride and groom's spirit was so beautiful and you could tell by their actions, how deeply in love they are. It was so sweet, gives me goosebumps as I write this.

Later the rain stopped and we all went out and took photos of the bride and groom and all the family. I got some really great photos.

I made them into a 10 minute video and I'm going to give it to them as a gift.

We left as the ceremony ended, but later my girl said "I want some cake." I said "Okay, let's go see if I can photograph the cake." We were too late though as they had already eaten it. But they gave us some cake anyways and invited us to stay for the party. They had a fire dancer and everyone was dancing. There was even a little boy, Angel's age and they danced and danced. It was so cute.

So that was our excitement this weekend. I can't really put any photos of them up until I get there permission, maybe later today I can ask them.

Cool thing is Angel had met them. She met them a couple of weeks before when she was running around with a langua de perro stuck on her hand and I guess she'd Wow'ed them. And they had all remembered each other. It was very cool how it all came full circle.

I'm so excited!! This is so cool as just the other day I was thinking maybe I should put this puppy to bed. I mean I don't get paid for blogging, I don't even have ads or a donate button. I have tested both but for the ads, well I didn't care for the products and well the donate no one did, so just left my blog pure.

I do love to share though and that's what drives me to blog.

Santa Domingo Church in Oaxaca City

The Church and former monastery of Santo Domingo de Guzmán (Spanish: Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán) is a baroque ecclesiastical building complex in Oaxaca, Oaxaca, Mexico.

The complex includes a substantial sanctuary and an extensive system of courtyards, cloisters and rooms that formerly constituted the monastery

As its name implies, the church and monastery were founded by the Dominican Order. Begun in 1570, they were constructed over a period of 200 years, between the 16th and 18th centuries. The monastery was active from 1608 to 1857. In the period of the revolutionary wars, the buildings were turned over to military use, and from 1866 to 1902 they served as a barracks.

The church was restored to religious use in 1938, but the monastery was made available to the Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez de Oaxaca. In 1972 it became a regional museum, and in 1993 the decision was taken to undertake a full restoration. This was completed in 1999.

It is an exceptional example of conservation architecture. The architect responsible was Juan Urquiaga.

Best Photographs from National Geographic

When I was much younger it was my dream to work for National Geographic. It's been my dream to travel the world and especially now to share it with my daughter. I pray my dream comes true and all I can do is think positive, give thanks for the experiences that I have had, and hope that I can see some of the beautiful sights that are in this video. Enjoy!
