Open-sourcing the Blueprints of Civilization

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

So here is something fabulous. This guy had figured out how to make all sorts of equipment that anyone can do from scratch. He just has to write the instruction manual and burn the dvd an entire self-sustaining village (starting cost: $10,000). This is awesome, check it out!

http://www.ted.com/speakers/marcin_jakubowski.html

Declaring that, "We can lead self-sustaining lives without sacrificing our standard of living," Marcin Jakubowski believes that only by opening the means of production can we achieve abundance for all.

Though he has a Ph.D. in fusion physics, he became dissatisfied with its remoteness, and turned back to the earth as a farmer and social innovator.  Read More Here

Using wikis and digital fabrication tools, TED Fellow Marcin Jakubowski is open-sourcing the blueprints for 50 farm machines, allowing anyone to build their own tractor or harvester from scratch. And that's only the first step in a project to write an instruction set for an entire self-sustaining village (starting cost: $10,000)

http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2011/02/open-source-ecology-interview-with-founder-marcin-jakubowski.html

http://origins.wikia.com/wiki/Marcin_Jakubowski

The thing I like about it, is if it could still be kept small. That if it could be used in harmony with nature, then I really like it. It's sort of a mid way point.

So you could live off the grid if you wanted to.

Semana Santa-Holy Week in Oaxaca City Mexico 2010

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

We had the greatest time in Oaxaca City last year. We got to stay 17 days. We were very very blessed.

It was a really special time. It was an opportunity for both Angel and I to learn about Mexican traditions and to celebrate Easter in a different way than we had in the passed.

We met old friends and made lots new ones.

We visited Santa Domingo,  a 500 year old church and Monte Alban - the famous Oaxacan Ruins and visited El Tule- a 2000 year old tree.

We learned how chocolate was made and we drank LOT of chocolate milk.

We bought wonderful souvenirs, hand made and hand embroidered velvet tops, pottery, green and black. We hung out in the Zocalo and saw parades. We got fresh fruit from the market everyday and had fresh squeezed orange juice everyday. Yum! We had the best time. I really miss it!

So I just made the video you saw, I'm improving all the time, below is a video that was made last summer, when  I came home. I used Animoto , I really loved them, but it's really nice to make your own videos, so stay turned.

Join Adventurez in Mexico as we watch a parade in the Zocalo, we buy some Almond Treats and check out the activities as they prepare for Semana Santa

Naica- Mexico's Crystal Caves

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

Check out these Crystal Caves in Mexico! They are INCREDIBLE!

A team of international scientists explore a Mexican cave filled with giant crystals. With temperatures near 120 degrees Fahrenheit (48.8 Celsius), and over 80 per cent humidity, the cave is one of the deadliest environments on earth.

Without specialized suits and equipment, the scientists would die in minutes.

Their mission: to unlock the secrets of the mysterious ancient crystals, some of the largest ever discovered.

he Naica Mine of the Mexican state of Chihuahua is a working mine that is best known for its extraordinary selenite crystals.[1] Located in Naica in the municipality of Saucillo, the Naica Mine, a lead, zinc and silver mine operated by Industrias Peñoles, is Mexico's largest lead producer. [2] Caverns discovered during mining operations contain crystals of selenite (gypsum) as large as 4 feet (1.2 m) in diameter and 50 feet (15 m) long.

The Cave of Crystals (Cueva de los Cristales) is a cave approximately 1,000 feet (300 m) below the surface in the limestone host rock of the mine. The chamber contains giant selenite crystals, some of the largest natural crystals ever found.[3][4]

The selenite crystals were formed by hydrothermal fluids emanating from the magma chambers below.

The cavern was discovered while the miners were drilling through the Naica fault, which they were worried would flood the mine.

These are just some cool videos showing dolphins, whales, & turtles. We went to theTurtle Museum and saw the turtles the first year, they were working on it the second, but I see they have no website/blog.

We really wanted to go on a boat tour,  we just never had enough money to go. And I was afraid it might be to hot and too long for Angel. That first year we had problems with heat rash. Second year was much better but we knew what to do and what not to do.

Elizabeth Taylor & Mexico- Bucerias

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

So a long time ago back in 1989/90 I was visiting Mexico. I went about 3x in about a year and half and I liked to stay in a little town called Bucerias. It's a little town 20 minutes North of the Puerto Vallarta airport.

Now there was something Special and Magical about this place. It's obvious because now it's totally built up but when I was there it was small.

The first time I visited we went with friends to discover Puerto Vallarta. and of course we went out to where Night of the Iguana was filmed. Richard Burton had filmed it here and here is where Elizabeth Taylor had openly showed their love for one another and bought property.  I was told they also owned the Fred's Trailer Park in Bucerias. I don't know for sure if that's true but that's the story I heard.

I hadn't thought about that until I read that Liz passed away yesterday. I can imagine how she must have loved it there. They say that it was just a tiny fishing village then and that 1/2 the people had never heard of her.

Anyways, I just wanted to share that with you. At the year of our first winter Angel and I went back to Bucerias- I call it my Mexican Roots as that's where I first went and fell in love with Mexico.

Here's a video.

Here's an interesting article about it by By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith

http://www.hollywoodnews.com/2011/03/23/elizabeth-taylor-looking-back-at-an-adventure/

It is understandable that both he and Miss Taylor should have fallen so in love with this tropical village. For here they have been able to act much like honeymooners blissfully in love.

Local cab drivers point out to tourists “Casa Kimberley,” the luxurious villa nestled high on a rocky hillside where the famous couple live together

Each morning a candy-striped jeep, boldly inscribed on its side with the words “Casa Kimberley” calls for Burton at the entranceway of the house.

The actor jumps in beside the driver and, as the jeep makes its perilous way down the cobblestone streets, narrowly avoiding pigs, burros, and half-naked children, Burton will turn to wave a last goodbye to Elizabeth, standing smiling down at him from the balcony of their home.

Around noon, the jeep will return for Miss Taylor and drive her to the beach where she will board their boat, “The Taffy,” to make the 67 mile trip down coast to Mismaloya, the location site of Burton’s film, “Night of the Iguana.”

After spending the afternoon with him, on the set, they will board the boat together shortly before dusk to return to Casa Kimberley.

During the evenings, the couple will dine alone at home or will join friends in one of the six restaurant-bars in town.

Even to one spending just a few days in Puerto Vallarta, it becomes obvious that the charm of this tropical land has had its magical effect on Liz and Burton. Where they tried deliberately not to be seen in public in both Rome and London, here in Mexico they make almost a show out of publicly acting like a couple in love. Their attitude seems to say: “We adore each other and are proud of it. We want the whole world to know how we feel.” There is not a soul in Puerto Vallarta who could remain oblivious to that fact.

Here's a good Website on Puerto Vallarta- The Banderas News
http://www.banderasnews.com/vallarta-photos/north-coast-bucerias.htm

Sorry I had a map here but it's really slowing down my blog, just google Bucerias and click maps.

We have some excellent amigos that live and work in Bucerias at the Costa Dorada. I made this website(they've changed it a bit) just before Angel was conceived.

    Mexican Souvenirs

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

    http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

These are some of the beautiful souvenirs we brought home from Oaxaca. We bought alot of chocolate, but ate almost all of it before we got home. We had Hot Chocolate every day for breakfast. It was delicious.

We spent 17 days in Oaxaca. It was fantastic. I feel so blessed that we experienced it. We loved walking up to Santa Domingo each day, exploring the area. We visited Monte Alban and saw parades and watch the Silent Procession during Semana Santa, an incredibly moving experience.

Angel loved it, she learned where chocolate came from and it was the highlight of the day going in and having a little sample. The markets are easy to get to and the Zocalo is beautiful. Lots of gorgeous architecture, especially the church. The Cathedral in the Zocalo has beautiful windows with angels etched in them.

The handmade embroidered clothes are breath taking and so are the rugs and wooden toys. There is so much to see in Oaxaca. I highly recommend you all visit Oaxaca City.

Heart Storming- Come! Watch, Help Share Mother Earth's Message

    Our Mission

Our mission is to empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, To educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.

    Our Story

The Pachamama Alliance was born in response to a request from the Achuar, an indigenous people deep in the Amazon region of Ecuador. The Achuar made the courageous decision to seek a partnership with people from the industrialized world who would work with them in protecting their rainforest home and their traditional way of life. Out of this unique partnership, it has become evident that indigenous wisdom and insight offer enormous value in addressing the complex issues that we face in our modern world.

Awakening the Dreamer Set for Further Expansion

    Posted on March 4th, 2011

    ATD Community in Korea

The Awakening the Dreamer communities in Mexico and Korea recently learned just how powerful each individual can be when they synergize their efforts and act in concert with others with common interests and aspirations

In each country, the Symposium message is gaining momentum, and about to grow even more powerfully.

A vibrant group of Mexican Facilitators came together for two days in a very powerful and energizing planning session to determine their vision, mission, leadership, and strategic partners.

Mexican Facilitators left their planning session with a Mexican council in place, and concrete actions to coordinate and support their fast growing Facilitator body.

In Korea, Dr. Ken Gimm, with his very active fellow Facilitators, started to organize their actions and inspired more than 100 trained Facilitators in just over one year

In 2011 Korea has set the bar with a goal of presenting the Symposium to 10,000 individuals and training 200 Facilitators.

Both communities in Korea and Mexico serve as inspiring examples of what can happen when groups of like-minded people come together to create a vision with a plan for action.

Imagine a far-off place somewhere in time -- where smiles warm like the rays of sunshine -- where friendships are born together in a common dream -- enjoying nature in all it's splendor, or simply sunbathing away the hours in an enchanted setting.

    Zipolite Paintings by Tina Winterlik

    My Zipolite Paintings

In Feb 2001 a terrible fire burned my camera along with my cabana in Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico.

In a effort to capture the beauty of the environment around me, I started to paint. At first they were really bad. I did not know if I could paint.

In junior high I had wonderful teachers but in senior highschool I had been very discouraged by my art teacher, which is why I decided to take photography instead.

Anyways after many paintings I realized I did have talent. In a bizarre way the fire was a good thing.

If not for the fire, I would never have painted the many painting that I did.

    I hope you like them
