Los días 1,2 y 3 de noviembre teatro, danza, cuento y música unidos en el festival. Este festival tiene como fin preservar una de las tradiciones mas bonitas y coloridas de nuestro México además de proyectar a Zipolite como un sitio de turismo alternativo único en el país. Este es un festival es totalmente independiente y el contenido tiene el objetivo de estimular el crecimiento espiritual de cada persona a través de las artes y de los valores humanos y nuevas alternativas de vida.

The days 1,2 and 3 of November theater, dance, story and music united in the festival.
This festival aims to preserve one of the most beautiful and colorful traditions of our Mexico in addition to projecting Zipolite as an alternative tourism site unique in the country. This is a festival is completely independent and the content aims to stimulate the spiritual growth of each person through the arts and human values and new alternatives of life.

Celebrating Dia De Los Muertos in Mexico

So it's October and I remember seeing videos of Dia de Los Muertos and wanting to go to Oaxaca so bad and there were lots of things that almost stopped us but we made it and I have all these wonderful video of the event. If you look back through the blog posts you will see most detailed info relating to our time there.

Interesting how our perspectives change as we learn more. Right now I am learning about Cultural Appreciation and Cultural Appropriation and have posted info here https://mylangaratrccarvingjourney.blogspot.ca/2016/09/cultural-appropriation.html.

I was never familiar with these terms Cultural Appreciation and Cultural Appropriation I have for many years since some of my first visits to Mexico tried very hard never to take advantage or to be disrespectful.

There are more and more celebrations, events, movies that emulate Dia de los Muertos and I felt it is important to address it in this post. I want to point out I am not an expert on this and I am sharing this information for you to consider.

Now looking back at this, is it Cultural Appreciation or does it have elements of Cultural Appropriation. I never made any money from these..although Youtube has...by putting ads on it.

Anyways I am aware and doing my best to learn, share and change if necessary. We are supposed to attend the Stanley Park http://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/ghost-train.aspx

I was thinking it would be so fun to dress up as Catrinas. But this year Angel doesn't want to dress up, whether it is because she's 14, maybe this teenager/ high school thing or maybe deep down she knows maybe it's not quite right...I am not sure. After watching the video...about Cultural Appreciation and Appropriation has me questioning whether it's right to actually dress as a Catrina if one is outside of Mexico. Definitely something to give thought to and have conversations about.

WOW!! We've been having so much fun lately but I haven't been able to share it because I'm editing all the videos. First there was the celebration at 3 de Diciembre Restaurant on Dec 3 for their 20th Anniversary and then yesterday there was another celebration in Pochutla for the 40th Anniversary of a local school. I have about an hour of material that has to be edited. So stay tuned for about 8 new videos that I will share with you all shortly.

So something cool happened the other day, someone commented on a post that I did last November- for Day of the Dead- Dias de los Muertos- Catrina.

I had found this image online, I just loved it but could not find the artist.

Quiet Cinco de Mayo

We celebrated a very quiet little Cinco de Mayo.

We had a lovely dinner, sole with lots of lemon, carrots, taco chips, salsa, and to drink Orange Juice.(I wanted a Cerveza but it just didn't happen)

For dessert we melted left over Chocolate Easter eggs, and added a little milk, then we ate a whole container of Strawberries dipped in the Chocolate!! Yum!!

That was it, we were tired, we've been doing a lot of walking.

This video is from a few years back, I need to turn it the right way, but to busy at the moment, it will have to do. Angel wore her dress out yesterday, with black pants underneath and a coat, because it's been darn cold. We had so much fun with the cherry blossoms, they are just about to fall, so we we standing under the branches, making snow with the petals.

I love this time of year, but as I said, it's much colder than normal. Happy Friday Everyone, enjoy those blossoms, they'll be gone soon if we get alot of rain and wind. :(

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a holiday held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla.[1][2][3][4]

The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride,[5] and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War.[6]

In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.[7][8]

Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day,[9][10] the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico, which occurs on September 16th.

I just LOVE the Sesame Street Video! Really touched me! Captured time!
