Mazunte Jazz Festival, Beach & Spa Photos/Videos

Well we went to check out the Jazz fest but they were just practicing and setting up. It sounded like it was going to be GREAT! Would love to go but heard it is really hard to get back to Zipolite with so many people and so we just went and returned in the afternoon. We went down to the beach and wandered around. The water was beautiful. Big waves came up on the beach and Mother Ocean urged us in but we just couldn't. She cooled us off though and we were grateful. There is a lovely spa there, maybe we will go get a manicure or pedicure. Here are the photos I took

Change of Plans- Off to School we go!!

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2013

So a change of plans. Change is good!! I am going back to school. It's been 13 years since I been a program with exams and where lots of studying is involved. Yikes! But it's all good.

It's what I prayed for, meditated for and projected. I was sooo happy yesterday you couldn't wipe the smile off my face if you tried!  That is when I got the final okay!! So I am in a deep state of gratitude!

It's a good program at a great school here in Vancouver. It's Emily Carr! And the program is funded. It was quite the odd situation as it's only funded for people who have very low or no income.
Sadly that's me.

I've tried. I think you can see that, I have tried with my blogging, my photography, my web design, my social media, my videos, my book publishing.  Yet it's not enough. I don't have quite the right skills the industry is calling for.  I was stuck. I couldn't upgrade because I didn't have the funds.

Now though, I have been very blessed and this will all change. I will be learning more Wordpress, using current design applications like the latest Adobe programs and I'll be learning how to make apps. And that's a biggy.

Angel knows more about apps than me. I asked her...so if someone wanted to know what are apps and what are they for?  What would you tell them.. and she launched into all this.
1. games
2. tips
3. games w/tips for real life gaming.  -I didn't know this :(
4. most important- they have to be fun- or if they are boring everyone will uninstall (smart kid!)
5. Cost- Free- $1 or $2 - paid apps are usually $1 she tells me.

So what else do I need to know.
Well she says...
Will it have physics?  What will the controls look like and where will they be?

And she goes on...

So see I have to catch up. I have to go back and learn because I am only 51 and in Canada we have to work to 67 to get retirement...I have a long ways to go and I have to take care of my girl.  I want the best for her that I can give.  I want to learn this new technology and use it in a "green way!"

Something cool happened. Have you heard of the GREEN SCHOOL? http://www.greenschool.org/  I saw something on CBC about it and then googled it  and found a Tedtalks video and learned a lot more.

I would love for Angel to go there. Wouldn't it be so cool for us to go there for a year and then go to Zipolite and try and start one there.

Well that's my new dream/goal.

So until then we are both in school. Angel has to go to school if I go. So we are school kids together now and unfortunately we won't be going to Mexico this year. Well not until at least March...when my program ends and then only if miracles happen and we have the funds.

We sure will miss it, but Angel did want to spend Christmas here, so we are all getting our wishes to come true.

Isn't life AMAZING!!

Anyways, I just wanted to share that I put some little support thingys on the right side there. Since I will be super busy with the program and they really discourage you from working while in the program as they want you fully committed...things are going to be tough...when aren't they..right!

But at least after this program things will get better.

Anyways,
- if you like our blog,
- if the videos made you smile,
- if the photos and music triggered wonderful memories or inspired your travel bug
then could you please share the love and support us and treat us to something. (See right sidebar)

We would be so very appreciative and we will definitely give you a shout out!!

Okay so that's the big news. If your heading to Mexico, especially Oaxaca and Zipolite, ENJOY!! Have a wonderful time, think a good thought for us while you are there and say hola to our friends. Almost everyone knows Angel ;)  Please send our love and tell them we miss them.  Here's a list of the people who definitely know us and if you visit them please let them know. Gracias. http://zipolitazstudioz.blogspot.ca/p/clientz.html

Hasta Luego, Tina aka Zipolita y Angel aka Angelita!

Watch the little boys dancing in this video...sooooooooooo cute!! This catchy music was stuck in my head. I think the headdresses are so cool and a fabulous idea. Watch for the golden angel, he was so beautiful. Angel did the best she could to take a photo of me and him, but some guy squished her she said :( and he wasn't very nice...so she was upset, but I just fixed it the best I could in PhotoShop. I got so nervous I forgot to take off my glasses. It's one of those moments you'd like to redo but it is what it is. The last is Angel and I having a DELICIOUS cup of Hot Oaxacan Chocolate!! yummy!! You get to see how they make it!

Here's the first of 3 videos. I have a slow connection so it may take me a few days to get them all up. Right now it's on the second one and say 164 minutes remaining :( We've had a fabulous time here in Oaxaca.

I have been dreaming about this day for 2 years. Ever since I saw Sylvia Ji's painting of a Catrina, I dreamed of going to Oaxaca and getting my face painted and celebrating Dia de Los Muertos. Yesterday my dream came true.

I had wanted to buy new Mexican clothes - a skirt and blouse for both Angel and I but my budget is really small and so I had to make due with what I had. I went to the material store and got 2 metres of beautiful material for $50 pesos each. Then I got 2 metres of this black mesh with sparkles on it for veils. I bought thread and a little elastic and needles. The total was less than $150 pesos so less than $15 Cdn.

I went to work and started sewing...by hand. I think they turned out awesome. I folded the top 3 times and them stitched it. Then wrapped it around and figured where buttons should go. Since I didn't buy buttons I had to make them. I used the elastic, I rolled it into a ball and then wrapped the material around it. I had bought transparent thread and its really strong, so I liked that. I made button holes and well it all just came together, with a little gather here and tuck there.

I shortened the dresses by gathering the material up into a little rose on the side, this created little gathers and gave a nice effect. In the end  I wore black tights under my dress and Angel wore dark jeans. This is because it was cold and also because my dress had a slit on the side down the leg. I did actually sew the dresses onto us in the end. LOL! I know Angel thought that was very funny. "Please Mom, no, please don't so it onto me!"  But to really gather it tight and make it hang nice I did sew it tight on the hip/leg. Later I just snipped that to get the dresses off and who knows maybe we will use them again.

We got our faces painted in the Zocalo. I went the day before to ask the girl when she would come, she said  3pm. So I did my hair...oh I bought gardenias the day before, 2 bunches for $30 pesos. WOW!! They smell so BEAUTIFUL!! I just love gardenias. Anyways I put my hair up and put the flowers in...I had used fishing line and attached them to some big bobby pins I bought. So I went to the Zocalo but she wasn't there. Luckily she'd given me a card and a girl with a cell was kind enough to send a text and she said she was on her way.

In the meantime I bought a globo, (balloon) for Angel to chase and bounce...they are special here in Oaxaca, I'll put a pic up later and show you. So the girl finally arrived and painted both our faces. $100 pesos for mine and $50 pesos for Angel. I was a little disappointed as she didn't have the colors I wanted. I also thought the brush she used was to thick and was hoping she'd put more detail in it. It only took her about 30 minutes to do both Angel and I. I think she may have been rushing as it was starting to sprinkle. I was worried too. That would have been so sad to get our faces painted and then have to go home in the rain.

Luckily it didn't rain...then. We went home, had something to eat...which is a little tricky and got dressed. I put up Angel's hair and put in the flowers. I put on our veils. Oh I made a purse from the veil material as mine did not match and I didn't want to carry much that evening.  I also took a Q-tip and smudged the makeup a bit and filled in little spots that had been missed and on my eyes in the lid  where it was separating. I also put on mascara. I really wish we'd had fake eye lashes but good ones are expensive and like I said our budget is small.

Then it RAINED!! But the cool thing about Oaxaca, it pours and then stops. So we waited a bit. Mindi, someone we met at the hotel, took photos of us and then when it started to dry up we went out.

It was pretty chilly and I was worried about Angel, she has no meat on her. But as we walked we warmed up. As soon as we got to the Zocalo, people started stopping us and asking to take our photos. WOW! I was surprised and flattered.

We made our way up to Santa Domingo and on the way saw lots of people dressed up and lots of great musicians and events. Watch the videos and you will see.

Unfortunately Angel was not into having a lot of photos. Which was sad as this is maybe a once in life time, or at least she will only be this age this time. But I did manage to get a few really great shots and I hope to paint them one day!! ** That is when I get some canvas :( Still didn't get any. Was going to when I was here, but no money in the budget for it right now :(

Anyways, soon, I just know it will all come together..I'm praying and projecting more work comes my way. It's just tough because I don't have papers to work in Mexico so that means I have to bring it in from outside of Mexico. And normally my work comes by word of mouth and face to face encounters. I haven't been in Canada for 2 months so things are getting tight, but I've got a plan. :D

A Beach Wedding Video

Buenos Dias!! How's everyone doing today? Had a great weekend. I was passing a local establishment and I could see they were setting up for a wedding. I inquired if they had a photographer and they said they had lots of people to take photos. I asked if I could and the bride asked if I was a Professional Photographer and I told her "Yes". She asked if she had to pay and I said "No", as I just wanted to do it for fun, with no pressure and because I'm not allowed to work here under Mexicos laws...yet, I hope to get my papers...

Anyways I got the go ahead. The sad thing was it clouded over just before the wedding, and just as the groom was standing waiting for her, and she was about to walk the aisle down the sandy beach, IT POURED!!

Pobre Sita! Poor Girl! She called everyone in and luckily I had a umbrella, I was the only one, I held it over the mother-of-the-bride as she came in. I had it because I didn't want my camera to get wet.

The wedding was BEAUTIFUL! They had it under the canopy/roof in the front of the building. The lighting was great as it was soft and so I was able to get some really nice shots without harsh shadows.

The bride and groom's spirit was so beautiful and you could tell by their actions, how deeply in love they are. It was so sweet, gives me goosebumps as I write this.

Later the rain stopped and we all went out and took photos of the bride and groom and all the family. I got some really great photos.

I made them into a 10 minute video and I'm going to give it to them as a gift.

We left as the ceremony ended, but later my girl said "I want some cake." I said "Okay, let's go see if I can photograph the cake."  We were too late though as they had already eaten it. But they gave us some cake anyways and invited us to stay for the party. They had a fire dancer and everyone was dancing. There was even a little boy, Angel's age and they danced and danced. It was so cute.

So that was our excitement this weekend. I can't really put any photos of them up until I get there permission, maybe later today I can ask them.

Cool thing is Angel had met them. She met them a couple of weeks before when she was running around with a langua de perro stuck on her hand and I guess she'd Wow'ed them. And they had all remembered each other. It was very cool how it all came full circle.
