I had been waiting for the camioneta in Zipolite when I heard VIVA! VIVA! VIVA! the shouts of little children in the distance. I had heard there would be a parade for Dia de la Revolution and the timing was perfect.

That said I had to wait a while because no one was going to Pochutla so the collectivos wouldn't take me. I met some nice people on the ride to Pochutla in the camioneta though.

When I arrived in Pochutla it was already happening and only saw part of the parade and I had to leave because I had things to do, I missed this. Angel would have loved it, she loves this song :D Well done!

El Panchan is a beautiful place in the jungle near the ruins of Palenque. We went there 3 years ago and hope to return soon. I remade my video from 2008. I hope you can visit for yourself one day, it's amazing!

Viva La Revolution!! November 20th is Revolution Day or Dia de la Revolution en Mexico. Everyone has day off and the schools have little parades. There is nothing like being in an another country and learning about their holiday. You got to love Wikipedia to help fill in the blanks. Reading it with my child we discussed several issues surrounding it. Like the invasion of people from foreign lands (Europe) taking the land away from Indigenous people. Similar events took place in Canada and unfortunately it is still playing out all around the world. :(

Zapatista women

Women who fought alongside Zapata.

Since Zapata's political ambitions and campaign were usually local, women were able to aid the Zapatista soldiers from their homes. There were also female Zapatista soldiers who served from the beginning of the revolution. When Zapata met with President Madero on July 12, 1911, he was accompanied by his troops. Among them were female soldiers, including officers. Some women also led bandit gangs before and during the Revolution. Women joined the Zapatistas as soldiers for various reasons, including revenge for dead family members or to perform raids. Perhaps the most popular Zapatista female soldier was Margarita Neri, who was a commander. Women fought bravely as Zapatista soldiers and some were killed in battle, and long after the revolution ended many continued to wear men's clothing and carry pistols. Col. María de la Luz Espinosa Barrera was one of the few whose service was formally recognized with a pension as a veteran of the Mexican Revolution.

A wonderful Oaxaca treat for Dia de los Muertos is a Chocolate Skull. And a trip to Oaxaca City wouldn't be complete without playing in Zocalo with a globo. :D

Here's what I can buy for less than $30 in Mexico. I could probably get food cheaper if I knew all the places with the best deals but for now I just go to Bodega Aurerra in Pochutla because it's fairly fast and I can get back home fairly quickly with out the food spoiling.

Remember here though the minimum wage is $5 a day. A day folks!

Not $5 an hour, so you can imagine how tough things can be here. I am grateful I can afford nutritious food that I can feed my daughter and myself. It's really tough for some.

Thank goodness there is the ocean for fish and many people raise their own chickens and grow their own food. Still many fruits and vegetables are shipped here. Something I wasn't aware of. For example the oranges come from veracruz. When we arrived they were more than the normal price of 20 for 25 pesos. You can imagine how a small change like that can be hard on people.

Tourism is their main economy here and they depend on Christmas/Navidad and Easter/Semana Santa to make enough for the year.

Zipolite is a gorgeous place. Why don't you come down and get de-stressed, chill in a hammock, grab a cerveza, watch a sunset and help their economy. Gracias.

The minimum wage in Oaxaca is $5 a day. This is what I can buy for $370 pesos, about $28 Cdn. But it's not easy for people when the wages are so low and food is so high. Sort of like Canada.

*Note: I apologize - I goofed and loaded the video and half the music was missing and 3x I tried to reload it but is was wonky and it's still not working. I give up for now. :( Cheers.

If yuur visiting Zipolite and your budget is tight and you need a good meal, then El Original Pollo Azados is the your ticket. A really filling meal served with pasta salad, rice, tortillas, green sala and lime.

Just pop next door and grab yourself a cerveza or something to drink and you'll be set.

The Big Bad Toad

Today I have a guest blogger, my 10 year old daughter, Angel is going to tell you about an experience we had last night.

'Ello everybody! Ok so yesterday, we were walking and my mom thought she forgot the keys ( i'll continue this deeper into the story ) and I told her " don't worry mom, you always think you lost it but it' right infront of you! "

I ran on onto the sidewalk to catch geckos ( which I love ) and I saw him. I begged mom to touch him. And then he puffed up, but that is not a warning. They do that to wart off competitor toads. ( get it? wart off? ) Then I started to pick him up after his "Free massage. "

He was fine with it! so we took him home but mum DID forget the keys inside. There was also a cricket outside and I put him infront of it incase he was hungry, but he didn't eat it. So as we were going to Magaritas and this guy said that it was posinous.

I started crying because 1# I REALLY liked him. 2# he didn't put anything on me and he wasn't eritated. So we got the key and we came home just to find the room flooded with my tears. I had a bad sleep last night so I'm *yawn * a bit tired.

Now, you may think that he was all hard and I probbly got warts, but no. This cane toad ( that's what he was, but I didn't know it until late lastnight ) Was really REALLY REALLY Soft! Pretty eyes too.

So just a little note from me (Tina-mom), I had forgot that Margarita said they have "leche" that is bad for you. If it gets in your eyes it's bad. I came home and we researched it and looked at lots of photos on google.

And we are pretty sure it's a cane toad. If you know different please let me know.

Moral of the Story: Don't try this at home- Listen to your mom and don't touch or pick up things unless you really know their safe. I guess that's why they say "Never kiss a frog/toad" LOL

Cane toads can kill dogs. So don't let your kid play with one and don't even mess with them.

And my lesson, don't give in so easy to my kid. ;(

Musicians en Oaxaca-Dia de Los Muertos 2012

I just loved them. I was so lucky that we got to see them. We arrived just at the right time and I got some great video.
I don't know their names. As soon as someone lets me know I will credit them. I just loved the singing and dancing, the canastas and the tambourine, everything, I loved what they were wearing. It was really a treat to see this and on such a Special Occasion, I feel really blessed and I really happy that I can share it with you. So listen now your in for a very special treat!
