Here's Angel and others stilting in Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico on Jan 6 2013.  Traditionally 3 Kings Day or the Tres Reyes. Chris and Chalo Wells dreamed up All Species Day and this was their idea of having everyone dress as a different bird and walk the street and beach. Many thanks for teaching Angel to stilt. A fine gift from the Tres Reyes if you ask me. One she can use all her life.


Angel's bird is the Dunlin, a small sandpiper that lives in shallow water and along  the beach sometimes and eats small insects and mollusks. I had a lot of fun making her costume and her mask. This bird was very special to Angel as she had rescued an injured Dunlin but unfortunately it passed away. This was her moment to pay tribute to the little bird.  She did a fabulous job. :D


I made her mask using corn flour, water and paper. I put a hat in 2 plastic bags (so it wouldn't get wrecked, it's one of Angel's favorites :) then covered it with the paper that had been cut into strips and dipped in the paste.

I folded paper into a round cone shape and then attached with the strips of paper that had been dipped in the paste. When it was totally covered we brought it in and put it in front of the fan because the Cynotes (birds) would eat it. Later we would put it in the sun. Then I painted it and attached googly eyes and a few more feathers.


Hey someone better let that bird out of the cage. :D LOL!!

They are all doing Great!

It's the man and woman's first day and it was amazing what they did. Angel's 3rd day.

She took a tumble today though and hurt her wrist. She'll be okay but it scared us both really bad, I thought she'd done what I did to mine. I'm still healing and it's been 6 weeks.

We will go to Pina Palmera and get it looked at tomorrow.

We had a nice night tonight. We went to a Rosario. I'll put up some pics later. It's late. Buenos Noches.
