New Years Resolutions

Well normally I don't make New Years Resolutions, but this year I have the urge. Downsize, Organize, Re-invent, Popularize,  these words all come to mind of things I want to work on this year.

We moved and have put down roots and now I feel the need to really start fresh. We will see. Today is a beautiful day here in Vancouver, but I miss Mexico. I will miss the Karma Cleansing in Zipolite at Shambhala tonight, and that's sad.

We had the most wonderful times there the last two years. I really have no desire to do anything this year. With so much going on before and over the holidays, I feel the need for calm.

So we will just breathe deep and make wishes and say a little prayer for all our loved ones to stay safe and that we all enjoy a beautiful 2011. May we blessed with peace and prosperity and love and may the opportunity to travel and learn present itself again when we are ready, willing and able.

Most of all, that this time I can share in way that really can reach out and enlighten the masses. I haven't figured that one out yet, so I hope that this New Year Resolution materializes, and soon.

Happy New Year's Everyone!!

Feeding the Iguana Blue Flowers in Zipolite

I just LOVE this photo. Angel was feeding the Iguana (wild but protected-while on Shambhala land)blue flowers. It was just a fluke, as I remember once I had fed a little white flower to a small lizard on Ohm Beach. So I told Angel, grab a blue flower and it worked. Turned out the iguana was pregnant and she didn't want to leave her nest under the walk. So it worked out great. A wonderful magical experience!

Merry Christmas Zipolite & Gracias Charlotte

Charlotte & John were Santa's helpers the 2 winters we spent in Zipolite. Charlotte is a MASTER AT TYE DYE!! She made these two awesome shirts. THANKS SO MUCH CHARLOTTE! They are beautiful. Muchas Gracias to you both.

Projections for the New Year!!

Well, who would have thought that they would chose Fabio to win Survivor!

I'll tell you though, that scene when he's hopping around with the thorn in his foot, I related to that...I have been there. When you in a strange environment all sorts of crazy things happen. I'm so happy he won. He seems like such an earthy wholesome dude...he's totally fit in in Zipolite.

My plan was for us to visit Central America this year, Honduras was definitely on the list, but it hasn't come together. Obviously the Universe has something else in mind for us.

So while a tad sad, and missing friends, family and gorgeous beach and sunsets, I must dream and PROJECT FORWARD!! Something is coming, great and positive things are around the corner, and we must go with the flow and keep projecting, because we've been thru the lows and the highs are about to flow. My life is a rollercoaster...it can be darn scary, but it's filled with miracles.

Going to Zipolite and living there for 5 months, 2 years in a row, NOW THAT'S A MIRACLE!
If you knew how little we survived on and If you knew all the wonderous things that happened to us...THAT'S A MIRACLE! THOSE WERE MIRACLES!

While I'm sad our plans for this year didn't pan out, I can only believe that God and the Universe have a greater plan for us and we just have to wait and see what it is. We learned so much, and I know while Angel may not remember alot of it, that she was impacted deeply by so much, by the environment, the people, the love, the beauty, we had really wonderful special incredible life changing experiences, and so we give thanks for those. I hope that you can experience similar experiences. I pray that your lives can be enriched the way ours were.

Blessing to you all, Blessing to all of us, that we are blessed with Miracles and can run and play and be free, the way you can in Zipolite. Merry Christmas and Feliz Navidad. Muchos Besos, Paz y Amor Amigos.

We will see you again...soon I hope and Pray and Project!!

Shine!! And NEVER take Anything for Granted!!

I miss Zipolite So Much!! When you live there for 5 months, you take the beauty for granted, and when you are so blessed and fortunate to return a 2nd year in a row...oh, for shame, I took this wonderful miracle for granted.

I appreciated but it's true, while it was a struggle, somehow I really feel I did not appreciate this miracle as much as I SHOULD HAVE!! I really miss you Zipolite.

I pray we will return soon. For all of you there, ENJOY!! Every blessed minute, it really is such a magical place...especially the Meditation Point, as all the wonderful little experiences...and fabulous people.
Take care, Paz y Amor, Angel y Tina :)

The Little Drummer Boy!

Feliz Navidad!

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
'Till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older too

Ah, take my love, take it down
Ah, climb a mountain and I turned around
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down

And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down
Oh, oh, the landslide will bring it down

Dancing to the Drums in Zipolite!

Here is my Wild Child dancing her heart out to the drums. This was in November/December 2008. I love this video!

Christmas 2008 Zipolite Oaxaca Mexico

Consider a Christmas like this for your kids!

Christmas Eve Day 2008

Chrismtas Day 2008

Angel said it was the "Best Christmas Ever!" and yet she got less than she had any other Christmas. It really was a wonderful Christmas, so simple and not all the commercials and stress that often happens before. It was just very simple, calm and peaceful! What more could you ask for!

McDonald's sued over Happy Meals- I LOVE THIS!!

Finally someone is going to stand up to this crap!! Angel has never eaten at McDonalds, I taught her early on that the in my opinion French Fries are like putting plastic into your heart.

This is how I explained transfats. For years people thought I was crazy because I just thought French Fries were so toxic. But hey listen if plastic is actually made from oil that it doesn't take rocket science to figure out that deep-frying changes the molecular structure of it and well it's definitely not something God intended us to eat. You don't see animals eating it.

Big Mac's and all those other awful meals, so unhealthy for you and then they target the kids by trying to get them to eat their "Happy Meals" so they can have the toys.(What if we renamed them "Heart Attack Meals" - or Diabetes Meal..)  not so "Happy" then.

Actually Angel has had the toys, she gets them from a friend who eats there, despite my warnings.

Anyways so here is this great attempt to get the evil marketing people behind this. Shame, Shame, Shame is all I can say...and boy is your karma bad.

Here's part of the article below and then just follow the link at the bottom to read more. I just read that MacDonalds plans to double it's stores in China. Yikes!

McDonald's sued over Happy Meals

A consumer protection group filed a class-action suit against McDonald's Wednesday morning, claiming the toys included in Happy Meals bait and induce children to develop a preference for nutritionally poor foods.

The suit was filed by the Center for Science in the Public Interest on behalf of Monet Parham of Sacramento, Calif., and her six-year-old daughter Maya.

"McDonald's exploits very young California children and harms their health by advertising unhealthy happy meals with toys directly to them," the suit states.

"Children eight years-old and younger do not have the cognitive skills and the developmental maturity to understand the persuasive intent of marketing and advertising," the suit continues, "Thus, McDonald's advertising featuring toys to bait children violates California law because it is inherently deceptive and unfair."

Zipolite Art

Cacti by Tina Winterlik 2001
If you have never visited this website before you should, the web designer was kind enough to post my work here as well as many artists that created art work while in Zipolite. Check it out!!

http://www.costachica.net/english/art.htm

I don't have this original anymore, I sold it back in 2001 to the gentleman from Tres Deciembre, you should see if it's there, if you visit Zipolite. They make super delicious pizzas there.

Paper Making- Wish we'd done this in Mexico!!

I have tried to make paper before, but this is explained so wonderfully!I guess I am just super visual and to see it in a video just makes it so simple and clear.

I wish we had done this in Mexico. It would have been great the paper would have dry so fast. Maybe next time!!

Thanks Paper Alice!!
http://paperalice.com

This is such a wonderful and valuable art that you can teach kids and everyone!!

It's a great way to recycle, not so much in Mexico, we didn't see the flyers and millions of papers that pass our way, but here, especially over Christmas in Canada, I thinks it's a fabulous idea, and helps teach kids to be green. :)

In 2001 just after the Zipolite fire, when I was in San Cristobal Las Casas I bought some lovely hand-made paper. Today at Deserres we were looking at the hand-made paper, some of it $6 a sheet. Angel was amazed..."This is paper?"

Tippi- This is What I'm talking about!!

Oh my God! My niece just sent me an email with some gorgeous photos of Tippi as a child. This is definitely the life that Angel and I would enjoy! So beautiful! I can only hope and pray!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tippi_Degr%C3%A9
Tippi Degré
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Tippi Degré (born 4 June 1990) is a French girl, who spent her childhood in Namibia among wild animals and tribespeople.[1] After moving to Paris, France with her parents, she returned to Africa to make six nature documentaries for the Discovery Channel. She is known among other things for supervising the tigers in Fort Boyard, off the coast of France, which is the stage for a popular international game show.

Biography

Tippi was born in Namibia, where her parents, Alain Degré and Sylvie Robert, worked as freelance wildlife photographers.[2] She was named after Tippi Hedren.[3] During her stay in Namibia, she befriended wild animals, including a 28-year old elephant Abu, a leopard nicknamed J&B, crocodiles, lion cubs, giraffes, giant bullfrogs and chameleons.[4] She also befriended the Bushmen and the Himba tribespeople of the Kalahari, who taught her how to survive on roots and berries, and to speak their language.[4]

Tippi later moved with her parents to Madagascar and then to France, where she became a celebrity.[5] A book of her adventures (Tippi of Africa, ISBN 978-1868720835) was published and translated in several languages.[6][7] My Book of Africa (ISBN 9781770070295) is a bestselling novel of Tippi's adventurous life in Namibia. She also set up a website, and returned to Africa to make six nature documentaries for the Discovery Channel.[4]

In Paris (France), Tippi attended a local state school for the first two years, but was then homeschooled because she was found to have little in common with the other children in Paris.[4] She is now studying cinema at La Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris. [8]
------------------------------------------------------------------
So now as I research Tippi's life, sounds pretty tough, growing up in nature and then trying to fit into a different civilization.

This is a very interesting video, telling how she wants to give back, but sounds like she's been thru a lot trying to fit in and bridge the gap!

Leonardo da Vinci

Please see my views about this video on my other blog http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com This is pretty graphic in parts, so I hesitate to post it here, but I love the part that he grew up in the countryside and spent his days playin, experimenting and learning about plants, animals and nature. It's a wonderful argument for homeschooling/unschooling.

RSA Animate - Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us

A really excellent explanation of what drives people!! Is there hope for the world? Maybe! If people watch this. Please watch!!

Cat Stevens-Oh very young What will you leave us this time

NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED!

Lyrics:
Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
You're only dancing on this earth for a short while
And though your dreams may toss and turn you now
They will vanish away like your daddy's best jeans
Denim Blue fading up to the sky
And though you want them to last forever
You know they never will
You know they never will
And the patches make the goodbye harder still

Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
There'll never be a better chance to change your mind
And if you want this world to see a better day
Will you carry the words of love with you
Will you ride the great white bird into heaven
And though you want to last forever
You know you never will
You know you never will
And the goodbye makes the journey harder still

Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
You're only dancing on this earth for a short while
Oh very young
What will you leave us this time

One Love- Bob Marley

LYRICS:
One Love! One Heart!
Let's get together and feel all right.
Hear the children cryin' (One Love!);
Hear the children cryin' (One Heart!),
Sayin': give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Sayin': let's get together and feel all right. Wo wo-wo wo-wo!

Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love!);
There is one question I'd really love to ask (One Heart!):
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner,
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs?

One Love! What about the one heart? One Heart!
What about - ? Let's get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One Love!);
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/H3P1 ]
So shall it be in the end (One Heart!),
All right!
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
One more thing!

Let's get together to fight this Holy Armagiddyon (One Love!),
So when the Man comes there will be no, no doom (One Song!).
Have pity on those whose chances grows t'inner;
There ain't no hiding place from the Father of Creation.

Sayin': One Love! What about the One Heart? (One Heart!)
What about the - ? Let's get together and feel all right.
I'm pleadin' to mankind! (One Love!);
Oh, Lord! (One Heart) Wo-ooh!

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right. /fadeout/

Error or early Xmas gift?

Well we missed out on the big deal but it sounds like alot of people got a good deal, and the fact it went viral, is probably really good news for the travel industry!!

Error or early Xmas gift? Deal hunters snag nearly-free trips through Expedia.ca

TORONTO - It was either a generous early Christmas gift for scores of online shoppers or a massive mistake that could cost Expedia.ca big time.

Thanks to the online travel company, Colin Campbell will be doing his last-minute shopping in New York City this year and fly back into Toronto just in time for Christmas Eve. It wasn't his plan all along, but when Expedia.ca offered him a return flight and a few days in a hotel for just $40 — all taxes included — how could he possibly refuse? Night of The Radishes

This video below is excellent, be sure to watch the later part to the end that is where you see the most beautiful work. It makes me sad to watch this as I really want it to see this, and was hoping to spend time in Oaxaca this year. I hope we can next year, I really want to share this fabulous cultural experience with Angel. This is her culture after all.

Thanks to Christopher Stowens for sharing this great video and experience.
This is the caption for the video!
One of the best days of the year!! Every year on Dec.23, there is a competition in the zocalo in Oaxaca, Mexico, with large cash prizes. Thousands of people come and watch oaxaqueños create amazing works of art using radishes, corn husks or dried flowers. By nightfall, the square is so full of happy people, one can barely more. Viva Oaxaca!

Mexico City Christmas Videos

We were supposed to go to Mexico City during our first trip but things just didn't pan out, maybe one day...here is a great video I found on Youtube with incredible Nativity Scenes. I am going to post more as I come across them.
Here is the video link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SanT_FcvGWY&NR=1

Here is the description on the video
These photos were taken in December 2006 between Christmas and New Years in Mexico City's Zocalo (and a few from the neighbourhood). The evening shots of New Year's Eve. It was a truly magical evening as locals, tourists, young, old, rich and poor celebrated together. The pink strands on the hydro wires are candy floss. Candy floss was floating in the air as it escaped from the candy floss machines. People were leaping into the air to catch a free taste. The young boy at the end was completely covered in the sticky treat. He was having the time of his life. Mexico City is an amazing place and I encourage everyone to visit.

A Musical Adventure Kind of Day!!

A Musical Adventure kind of Day!!

Music!! It's so wonderful! It's so amazing how music can trigger so many kinds of emotion. It's so empowering. I love Mexican Music, Reggae Music, Rock & Roll, Classical, all sorts. Kids Love Music. Yesterday we were fortunate to see Bobs and Lolo. Angel knew them from Treehouse, I wasn't up to date as her and when Rebecca Coleman commented on my facebook page that Bobs and Lolo were going to be at Indigo Kids on Granville, well Angel knew who they were right away.

We had a great time. It's so important to expose your children to music, all kinds...it helps they're minds grow and grow and grow.
Here are Bobs and Lolo's Blog and Website. I want to mention I really like their website, it's very cool and well designed!!

Saying Prayers

We are saying prayers for the poor people affected by this terrible accident. So sad.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico - An explosion has rocked a Mexican resort hotel killing six people, three of whom may be Canadian tourists, Mexican officials said Sunday.

The natural gas blast occurred in the lobby of the 676-room Grand Princess Riviera Hotel in the city of Playa del Carmen around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Local authorities also said 15 people were injured.

Francisco Alor, attorney general for the state in which the resort city is located, said three of the dead may be Canadian tourists, while two others appear to be hotel employees. The sixth victim remains unidentified.

Vacationer Wanted

My video and res wouldn't load for some reason, I guess too many people trying to load theirs at the same time, but it would have been cool. Gives you something to dream about eh! Forty grand and travelling to exotic places to blog about it. Ah such is the life...theirs! not mine...but maybe mine...someday..if there was ever a time when this is going to become the norm it's now. Pretty amazing! What does the future hold. hmmm! http://vacationer.transatholidays.com

Missing Zipolite!

Friends are starting to make plans and make their way to Zipolite or are there already. Angel said she is missing the beach and is anxious to return to see family and friends, but also wants a Christmas here and want to see snow...how do you satisfy all that.

I don't know when we will make it back, I hope we do make it this year and soon,  but right now, I just haven't got a clue when, all I can do it pray and project.

I missed out on the Vacationer Wanted Contest. My video and resume wouldn't load, that dream job has slipped away. Would have been pretty incredible to get paid 40 grand to travel to exotic places and get paid for it.

Not fair, that was my job. :(   With 40 grand I could have taken Angel with me...so I had a plan.

All well right now I have lots of other projects, so one must go with the flow, and hopefully we will be on the go sooner than we think. At least I have lots of pretty photos to keep my thoughts happy.

I'm getting pale as a ghost here though and the cold is mean to my bones...heat, I need heat! sun, sand, beach, a book and the occasional cerveza. Mexico I miss you!! :(

Ta da!! this is the last post in a series...of AdventureZ in Mexico -The Movie!! Now if you were to look thru my blog, the videos go in order from the beginning to the end of our 2 journeys to Mexico.

I hope you like them. Be sure to look and share with your friends...because you never know what life has in store, and I just don't know how long I will leave this all up. Formerly we were Adventures of Angel and I changed all that. Hopefully people will continue to find this blog interesting and I will continue to blog...but if people don't read it, there is not to much point to it.

I'm going to try my hand at an e-book! Yikes...a little scary undertaking for me, but I believe I do have lots of valuable info about Green Travel with Kids to share...

Okay so take care, and please comment if you like this blog. No one ever comments, I don't know why...guess people are shy.

I hope you enjoy "The Movie!!"
Hopefully one day, I'll make a real movie!

* Side note, I have a hard time watching this one now, because of the part where Angel cries. The reason it's in there, it's real life. I don't want other kids to go thru this, it really was an issue that put a damper on the beginning of the trip. Of course we moved on, but she carried that event with her for 2 years until I was able to replace her little dragon. Moms, Dads, caregivers please don't make my mistake. :) Always check for toys!!

At Home - In Zipolite - Again!!

Life at the Beach- Round 2 - Nov 2009

Our life is a little bit crazy sometimes, most people's lives are I think.
Maybe it's my Bohemian heritage that I feel compelled to move around or who know why things happen....

Last year when we came home we hoped to get a housing subsidy. But because we were out the country more than 3 months we weren't eligible.

So we ended up staying with a close family/friend for the summer. Near the end of summer there was a fire in the apt below us and all the toxic smoke came up into our apt. It was a sign to me...for personal reasons I just felt we should go back to Mexico. And so with a very small budget we got our tix and off we went.

The interesting thing is we had a planned to stay somewhere different but it just did not work out. Instead we ended up back in the same spot and with our adopted family and friends.

We went home! Home to Zipolite!
Where Angel was created! Can't get more home than that!

My Beautiful Child!

When we were in Zipolite, something super cool happened on Christmas day. It was like a present from the Universe. We had just visit Charlotte and John at the Brisa Marina and we walking to see Franco at the Italiano Panderia, when Amber approached us. She told us that her husband "James Mollison" was doing a photo shoot for Vogue Bambini and would we be interested in Angel modeling. Wow! How Cool! What an opportunity!

Of course we said "Yes!" It was a lot of work for Angel and the kids(5 others) but it was very professional and the results were beautiful.

In this first video above, this is Angel playing a model, but just playing with the ants and enjoying life and freedom in paradise.

Unfortunately Youtube put ads on this, I will switch it out later for one with out ads. Some people say I should put Angel into modeling, but I don't think that's very healthy. I just want her to enjoy her childhood, and I just try to capture it.

We Got to Live!! I can do Anything!! - Video

Angel feeding the iguana blue flowers again!

This was such an awesome experience. We knew that Gloria had been feeding the iguanas at her house and that on Shambhala land the iguanas are protected.

One day we saw an iguana and I had remember that once, years before, a little lizard in a tree on Ohm playa had come to me and ate a white flower I offered it.

I told Angel to try the pretty blue flowers. Sure enough the iguana loved them. That was the first time. A few days later we tried again. It was so cool. There are big black ants on the flowers, that's what Angel shakes off her arm. She liked to leave the ants in there for the moma iguana...a little extra protien.

"We Got to Live, We can do anything"...this song says it all. It was a wonderful moment I will treasure forever. This iguana was wild, yet it let Angel feed it. It was so special! I will never forget it.
