So here we are! Here we are again, at the end of another year. Today's a very Special Day! A day of endings and a day of beginnings.

A time of Resolutions. I'm making a few.

Tonight is a beautiful night in Zipolite. I am not positive it's happening because I am not there, but it's been going on for so many years...I am sure it's about to happen.

The Shambhala Karma Cleansing Ceremony

At's Gloria's- over at Shambhala they are getting ready. Cooking food, creating the floral crowns, they've been practicing the chants for a while, it's busy, busy, busy.

And if you take a little walk to the Meditation Point, you will see they are preparing for tonight.

Tonight will be Super Cool! We had so much fun and it wasn't anything I expected. It's really fabulous, you really must go. Wear all white and Refrain from using any Drugs or Alcohol. I promise you will feel wonderful after. It's an experience you will never forget and hold dear to your heart all your life.

Gloria in "The Moment!" Photo by Tina Winterlik  © 2009

Angel and Gloria in the moment. This is such a truly magical ceremony. The chanting, candles, flowers, fire, Shaman, dancing, everything about it embodies the "best of every belief" is what Gloria told me and it is so true.   I LOVE this photo of Gloria. It captures all the beauty and harmony and love of the moment, so much hard hard work goes into it, and it's not cheap and Gloria manages it somehow. It would be nice if people donate as it's a wonderful gift of generousity on Gloria's part. Anyways, the year's we went it was free and it was awesome!

We were blessed to go to two Karma Cleansing Ceremonies and I eagerly look forward to my next. Which for now I project is next year. I wish it was sooner. At least I have all these great photos to help me re-live it all.

Giant Wind Plant in Oaxaca Mexico

Just read this, that Mexico is building a Giant Wind Plant in the state of Oaxaca in a place called La Ventosa.

A loan of 1.1 billion Mexican pesos (around $72 million) to Mareña Renovables Capital was approved.

Quoted from Earthtechling : “This operation, given the size of the project, is a significant step in the development of viable renewable energy projects in Latin America,’’ Jeff Easum, team leader of the project. Please Watch this Excellent Video about the Belo Monte Dam in Brazil

This video was created as part of the Gota D'água (Drop of Water) Movement lead by Brazilian celebrities. The campaign aims to stimulate the discussion on the energy development plan of Brazil. It also calls civil society to stand up against the Belo Monte dam, signing into a petition that the Movement did addressed to President Dilma asking for halting the dam's construction. Let's be a drop of water in this wave of goodness in name of true sustainable development, and protection of human rights, indigenous rights and the forest! Hey!! This Blog Adventurez in Mexico has been nominated for the Ninjamatics 2011 Canadian Weblog Awards in the Best New Weblog, Art & Photography, Life and Travel categories.

The 2011 Canadian Weblog Awards are a juried competition with nominations open in 37 categories between January 1st and October 31st, 2011.

The nominees shortlist will be announced on December 1st, 2011, and the winners will be announced on January 1, 2012.

2011 Canadian Weblog Awards

I'm so excited!! This is so cool as just the other day I was thinking maybe I should put this puppy to bed. I mean I don't get paid for blogging, I don't even have ads or a donate button. I have tested both but for the ads, well I didn't care for the products and well the donate no one did, so just left my blog pure.

I do love to share though and that's what drives me to blog.

It's lovely to acknowledged and to win this would be really fabulous. Congrats to all the nominees! P.S. My blog Tina Winterlik is nominated too!

New Film about Zipolite & the Lifeguards

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011
http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com
http://twitter.com/#!/zipolita @zipolita
http://gplus.to/zipolita Google+

Although I have only seen the trailer I think this film focuses on some great well-known issues in Zipolite. I created a website for the Lifeguards back in 2002 to try and help with getting the word out about them and to possibly raise money for them.

I hope that this film by Jeff Arak sheds a lots of light on the issues. I have a problem with the title though and I feel people will think negatively and not actually take the time to understand that the film is about the drownings that used to occur on a constant basis,  not about violence.

While we were there in 2008/9 2009/10  we were there when Aguila and others were  celebrating 18 months with no drownings or something like that.

It's really good to see Aquila because I'm not even sure he's still there. I saw a very brave man, along with other lifeguards who have saved so many souls. I even saw the lifeguards rescue people.

Aquila was very kind to Angel and gave her 2 special shirts to help her boogie board easier. We had a lot of fun playing with his children.

I really miss Zipolite. The thing about Zipolite you have to have a ton of respect, learn the waves, use a boogie board and don't go out very far. Most of all watch the flags and pay attention to your guts.

We had so much fun there, we lived there 2 winters but there were days where we just didn't go in the water. It's very cool to see Gloria and other well known people from Zipolite in this film. Makes my heart smile. I hope some positive things come from this.

To all our friends in Bucerias and anyone in the way of this, we are sending prayers for you and your homes and loved one to all be safe and I've included a Special Prayer, see below. Go Away Jova!!

Hurricane Jova

National Hurricane Center

Hurricane Jova slows off Mexico's Pacific coast

MEXICO CITY | Mon Oct 10, 2011 11:44pm EDT
(Reuters) - Hurricane Jova weakened slightly on Monday night as it headed for one of Mexico's busiest cargo ports and popular tourist resorts along the country's Pacific coast.
The storm, with top winds reaching 120 miles per hour, was about 155 miles southwest of the port city of Manzanillo late on Monday, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said.
Jova is expected to make landfall on Tuesday afternoon northwest of Manzanillo near the resort towns of Melaque and Barra de Navidad, on a stretch of coast dotted with fine beaches. Read More

We were given this book, it's about angels-  BOOK OF ANGELS by Francis Melville.
  http://www.amazon.com/Book-Angels-Guidance-Comfort-Inspiration/dp/0764154036

I swear the angels have really listened and helped so many times, with little miracles and big. I took that book to Mexico and back and it holds a very special place in my life and heart.

There is a special prayer for hurricanes.

I hope it's okay with you Francis. I really think we need them right now. And the more people to share this prayer the better.  So please share, it can not hurt, it can only bring us closer together. Positive energy is what we need.

For Hurricanes
In the name of the all- powerful Creator
I invoke you, great Angel Zamiel,
As the Angel of Hurricanes,
To calm the fury of this terrible storm.
May you divert it from it's path from the most vulnerable places
to blow itself out where few can come to harm
I honor and thank you for hearing my prayer
In the name of the Almighty.

He also states "Your invocation should be addressed to the four winds, starting in the east and working clockwise". Any number of candles may be burned. Visualize the calm of the storm and imagine drawing in the winds spiraling around it, calming them until all is still and peaceful.
* Be VERY CAREFUL WITH CANDLES! Never leave them unattended. Watch out for kids and pets.

Inspired by Mexico Today's Videos

I am so homesick for Mexico right now. This is the time of year we usually get ready to go...so I feel the anxious yearning to pack and organize and get ready. My friends are going and how I want to join them.

So far it doesn't look like we are making the journey this year, so I must go with the flow. There must be something else I am supposed to tend to right now. That's one of the things I love about Mexico, the people just go with the flow. They have incredible patience and they are so kind.

On Independence day Mexico Today organized a Twitter Fiesta, and when asked what is your favourite thing about Mexico a chorus of tweeple said "The People." That is so true. It's the people that inspire me and draw me back along with the gorgeous beaches, ruins, food, and just the everyday experience of life and meeting other people trying to experience their own Mexico.

I'm really inspired right now.  I'm going to remake a bunch of my videos...I'm going to make my movie...I need to tell my story differently so that people can really see how rich Mexico is in environment, culture and that it is safe and affordable.

Have you heard of Mexico Today. It's a really cool website that has lots of great videos. You should check it out. http://www.mexicotoday.org/

My Mexican Blankets- Viva Mexico!

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011
http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com
http://twitter.com/#!/zipolita @zipolita
http://gplus.to/zipolita Google+

So for Sept 16 Mexico's Independence Day and I wanted to do some Special. I wanted something new to post about and I was like think, think think.

Then finally I got it, what about show you my Mexican Blankets

I would be interesting to see how many Mexican Blankets in households around the world. Maybe we could do a project and get people to tell a story about their blankets.

I have collected blankets from many of my trips and most are very good quality so they have lasted 10-15 years. I love my blankets, I even have a few more, one is similar to the first one here but it's peach tones and it was the first blanket I ever bought. It was in Bucerias in 1988.

I can't remember exactly where I got them all, but I'll try.
2008/9
I got this one on our last trip, I bought it in Zipolite on the beach, I think I paid $250 pesos.

It's quite good quality and I love the colours. This photo doesn't show the true colour.

1990
I just can not remember where I got this one, I think it was in Bucerias?

1996- Might have been Puerto Vallarta
This is the Fire God I think, it's based on Aztec. I may have got it in Vallarta but I don't remember exactly.

I think I got this in Zihuatengo 1996?
I think I got this in Zihuatengo, on another Cruiseship, while working as a Photographer.

I bought this while in Cozumel, while working on the Cruise Ship 1995 as a Photographer and I paid like $50 US.  It's the most I ever paid for a blanket, but it is really beautiful quality.

Wow, time is passing quickly. It was this time of year that I made my decision to take Angel and go to Mexico, to learn about her culture and meet her dad. So much thinking went on. Funny when I think about the chain of events that propelled us into action. It was the teacher giving Angel a time out on the second day of grade one was one of the biggest reasons.  There has to be something better in store for us was my thought. And there was. This was our first stop. Cancun!!

I must admit, the first time we rented this I didn't watch it with my kid. But we did receive it as gift recently and I have watched it a couple of times. It's REALLY funny and I love how it has some great scenes of  Puerto Vallarta that made me really homesick. I am missing Mexico so much. It's been over a year now since we were last there. I really loved the deleted scenes, especially Chloe's Vision Quest where Margarita talks to Adelita(sp?). It's a great show. I won't tell you anymore, just definitely watch it. There's a strong underlying messge that is important for all Mexican people as well as for everyone in general ;)

This is very cool.

I sure hope we make it down next year. That's the plan. I have been to Tonina, back in 1990 and I've been to Palenque about 4x I think now.

Would love to take Angel back there. Such a wonderous place and now that she's a little older, the experience would be even more meaningful for her. We really did enjoy our time there, but it was hot and she was only 6 so climbing the steps was alot.

We loved the waterfalls. I love Palenque, not just the ruins but the the whole area. It's so GREEN.

TEDx Video-Emiliano Salinas: A Civil Response to Violence

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

This is cross posted on Adventurez in Mexico and my blog Tina Winterlik
Please watch and share this powerful video

From TEDx-About this video
In this passionate talk from TEDxSanMigueldeAllende that's already caused a sensation in Mexico, Emiliano Salinas, son of former president Carlos Salinas de Gortari, confronts the current climate of violence in Mexico -- or rather, how Mexican society responds to it. He calls on ordinary citizens to move from denial and fear to peaceful, community-based action. This is the first talk posted on TED.com that was delivered in a language other than English. (It has English subtitles by default.)

I wish I had these is Spanish - to share, they are excellent video, I hope someone can translate these and share them.

Mexico- West Coast-Hurricane BEATRIZ- Say a Prayer Please

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com
(This is being cross posted on Tina Winterlik & Adventurez in Mexico)

There is a hurricane hitting Mexico's West Coast today. Please I ask you to take a moment and say a prayer, to think a calming thought...for winds to calm, for water to calm...for Mother Earth to calm down, for the wind and the rain to calm. I am praying for all the wonderful people in those areas that we met when we travelled, for friends and families. I am sending this little angel to watch over you all. Please God look after all these wonderful people and keep them out of harms way. Please Mother Nature, let there be peace and calm.---

Do you ever wonder if all the tensions and negative energy around us create these negative events in nature? I heard a man speaking recently saying that we are one with nature...we are not outside nature. Perhaps if we all calm down, Mother Nature will calm down.

Zipolite Paintings- Video

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Made this video last year, thought I would share with you here.

In Feb 2001 a terrible fire burned my camera along with my cabana in Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico. In a effort to capture the beauty around me, I started to paint. At first they were really bad, I did not know if I could paint, in highschool I had been very discouraged by my art teacher. After many paintings I realized I did have talent and in a bizarre way the fire was a good thing. Otherwise I would never have painted the many painting that I did. I hope you like them
